I was working in LA when this song was played for the first time on KROQ on the morning show with Kevin and Bean. They introduced Alanis, interviewed her a bit before they played that song. I don’t think people understand as a performer, how hard it is to hit every single one of those words without missing a single word! When the breakdown happed, that was really her first breath of air. I’m not saying that she’s not breathing throughout the performance, but when the breakdown hits that’s her first chance to catch her breath. I was in a 90s hip-hop metal band as the lead singer so I can appreciate good talent as good as anyone. As a teenager she was one of my favorite musicians. BTW, at the time I listened to shit like Deftones, Korn and Fear Factory and I was also listening to her album on repeat. She rocks!

Alanis Morissette is one of the acts with that 90s authenticity. We were dished up so much real stuff like this that the late 90s had a counter movement of syrupy pop music like Hanson, Britney, the Spice Girls and a bunch of other stuff. The early to mid 90s was great while it lasted!
