Incredible album, so very influential for a lot of alt bands in latter 80s and 90s..not to mention that very clear guitar influence on Interpol most clearly heard on Second Skin.

The Chameleons are really growing on me, totally missed this band over the decades. Just a great sound, interesting vocals and lyrics- Up the Down Escalator is definitely my favorite so far, although there are quite a few others I like nearly as much, depending on the mood (Second Skin, Swamp Thing, Is It Any Wonder, and more). Their sound is kind of "samey" though, I agree with that, definitely a limiting factor, but it's really good nonetheless. I haven't researched it, but Interpol in particular seems influenced by this band, I would say. The guitar riffs/sounds in particular and arrangements.

Please consider also reacting to The Chameleons = The Fan And The Bellows (A Collection Of Classic Early Recordings) album. It has lots of essential listening Chameleons tracks!

Congratulations on finally listening to this masterpiece. I definitely agree with the point you made about the sound getting a bit same-y (which I think is more true of the back half than side 1). Still a phenomenal album that more people definitely need to listen to. I look forward to your "What Does Anything Mean? Basically" reaction. They really clean up the production and go in a much dreamier direction on that one, so that should make for an interesting video.

Whats does anything mean basically? Is a great album kinda like the first album but a bit more dreamy and psychadelic. Strange Times is their masterpiece in my opinion and the dreamiest.

Oh man, you gotta at least react to their 4th and final album “Why Call It Anything.” At the end of your Chameleons journey you should give their compilation album “The Fan and the Bellows” a good listen. It contains the band’s very first recordings back in 1981. It’s very raw and skeletal compared to their debut album, but just goes to show they don’t need to rely on lush pristine production to evoke the same emotion to the listener

Great timing, I’d seen your reaction to second skin awhile ago and was hoping you’d react to the whole thing, just been searching for people’s thoughts on the album and I see this so thanks for the upload

Hi, I’m not sure where to recommend songs but anywho - The debut album by Big Country ‘The Crossing’ is phenomenal, especially the song ‘Porrohman’.

I super recommend Killing Joke, they have quite a big back catalogue and a documentary aboit them on prime ( the death and resurrection show). See the song "80s" for a direct nirvana comparison 😁
