Thank you for your videos, I’m an RN and I feel like I know what I’m doing until I puncture, after that it all goes downhill, I don’t get flashback at all OR if there’s flashback I end up blowing the vein. 😭

No this vein is the median cubical, normally you never draw from the basilic verin because there are nerves you can hit easily if you go too deep

How would you do an insert on patients who have tattoos all over their arms?

it shouldn't make too much of an issue as we should really be looking for veins by feel rather than sight. veins usually follow similar anatomy in most people so palpating in the same area as non tattooed patients should give similar results. it is preferable to go for places that are not tattooed though, not for finding veins but for assessing the area for phlebitis and so forth

alternatively, for people with full sleeve tattoos, you can regularly use parts of the tattoo as landmarks and references for your stick.

@@aaaarrmehearties going in a tattooed area should be avoided because the tatoo ink sits between the dermis and the facia just on top of the subcutenious fat. The needle can push the ink into the vein and cause embolisim because the ink becomes somewhat of a solid (lipid-like) once the tat heals properly. The trick is to go at a lower angle than you might otherwise, the needle goes in the skin where there is no ink and travels a greater horizontal distance under the skin to reach the vein.
