behind the door :) they don't do anything to the old lady because they are on the same team :). Do you really think in a communist country if the police want to get your ass they really need an excuse instead of they are in the same team and sharing that's kind of money. IF easy rip-offed people like that and won't need to share for anyone I may get that job.

Yeah nothing happens. This isn't new at all The ONLY reason she was pictured in the police station WAS because it made news The lady she tried to cheat wasn't stupid and got loud fast, Vietnamese do not like public conflict unless its the Rich vs poor locals

as a Vietnamese, more foreigner needs to speak up more about the petty theft and many other issue, such as air pollution, river pollution, food safety in Vietnam, to presure the government and the police to take actions and enforces laws

I love your thoughts but westerns cannot change this, there are billions of USD spent yearly in VN by a lot of EU nations to help with pollution, water, etc Even America sends aboug 60 milion USD a year for trash solutions, its been 17 years of that and nothing The problem is this is a culture issue. Go find someone break the rules, and ask them why and they will not care, someone pees on a wall or throws trash and will not care and Police are about taking cash off of random drivers than enforcing laws Sadly this is the results of such style countries, its similar in Cuba, China, and parts of South America that share similar thinking. Sadly what i see with the newer generation its getting worse and way more lazy as well...it'll be an intersting next 10 years

I truly get you, but its going to take a LOT to make such a thing happen, Even in Hong Kong they tried to STOP IT, and look what happened. Back in 2018 they tried to STOP IT in Saigon and that was shut down fast I am not saying anything at that level but the idea that the culture is deep and to change such tings is not going to happen unles the top down does something which they have no value to do that until its to late Look at China, they started making SERIOUS changes due to a lot of issues and to this day people in Main land China do "Those things" behind the backs of the police because its just "Normal to do" People in Vietnam have got loud about it for decades and nothing, even Vung Tau it was some what over taken by Japanese and Aussies for work and retirement the last 19 years The place was AMAZING, CVD hit Gov removed them all, andnow Vung Tau is no joke a sh** hole now... Sad really, and i am with you 100%...but what your asking for is MUCH bigger than you could image..we don't change a culture so easily, let a lone a mind set

I’m still optimistic about the future generations. With the exposure of social media, more and more young people realize the flaws of their bad culture and habits. It is a very slow process, but I’m optimistic for it to come to fruition

ha ha, yeah it does but this "Up charge" was just insane, it 50 to 60k per is a normal, not 140 to 160k She was yelling TAM TAM, which is 8 in Vietnamese. So she paid 500k for 2 pineapples but that cost she expected to get 8 in total then... Yeah thats just highway robbery at this point, If it wasn't for the facebook post that went public and to the media this would have been ignored, this happens A LOT.

one of major reasons I dragged my feet in SE. Asia to enjoy the local market & food... I don't mind paying the "foreigner" taxes up to a point but I really don't like being taken advantage ...

yeah its getting pretty bad since CVD, and its not even foreigners dealing with it locals and other Asian tourist as well. It's honestly out of control in Vietnam, being North or South. Know the basics of what things cost and get the cost up front and should be fine. Me personally i avoid most of this stuff, i use apps to confirm cost and move on. The moment you see how this food and stuff is handeled and delt with and how dirty the person handeling it is you'll never want to buy it again lol

Although petty thief is a big problem in Viet Nam, the recent case you showed is only from the foreigner's side, I read the case from online news tells the story from the seller's side that she has been accused wrongly of overcharging the foreigner and she has been harassed by the local because of it. Look, I don't say that the black woman tried to make up the situation to get attention but take it with a grain of salt. A lot of people even the locals stood with the black foreigner's side because the seller's side had been reviewed by the communist polices, people automatically took it as a lie.

Im not sure man, this video was taken from Vietnaemse news which was found by a Vietnamese women that posted it on her account. Even today May 2nd its being talked about on facebook on the Viet side and most of the talk is about how they always get cheated by venders. This is NOT a one time thing and this isn't just none Vietnamese regardless of race. This is sadly just what the culture is, up charge and go with it. Just this past week was a 3 day national holiday and SOO many of my Vietnamese friends all over VN and the ones i went out with all dealt with resturants, venders, beer girls, etc etc up charging, making up fees, all kinds of stuff. WIth the black girl though her reaction was annoyed we don't know what went down with her hours before maybe this happens a lot to her maybe it doesn't who knows Personally this happens to me imma say something, and if she tried to push me back and walk off imma get loud too The idea the other locals and even security came over and demanded she gave back the change correctly shows a lot. Listen to the crowd speaking VIetnamese mid point you'll hear them asking the vender lady how she going to charge that much thatsnot normal cost Sorry i talk to much ether way this is not rare, it happens all the time, this area she at is old town Hanoi were its VERY common, happens in District 2 and 1 in Saigon all the time too..its just the culture of VN that even the locals deal with...NOthing wil change sadly, ove rthe last 10 years all of this has only gotten worse and current the VND's vaue is going down A LOT and fast..so this is going to get way more common sooner than later

No need to follow it, this is Vietnam and it was made public like this beause a facebook post went viral. The end result i am 99.99% sure the vender paid a small fee for "Wasting the police time", the western was never seen again and this vender was back this weekend doing the samething again. This stuff is overly common and its not just Hanoi, South VIetnam is not to be forgotten, this is just a culture thing and life goes on. 11 years here It's only gotten worse and the Aussie guys i talk to that are here post Vietnam War, say the very same thing and most just laugh because its obvious wht going to happen to the vender Pay 10$ fine and go back to what they were doing
