Ce touché si particulier. Cette approche toute en retenue et inspirée. Du grand Bach sous les doigts d'A Weissenberg. Merci. :)

And I'm not even that crazy about piano. But Weissenberg is more than just the piano.

I think he studied with wanda landowska who was among the most important bach interpreters

IMHO, his sharpness and tidiness playing Bach are unmatched. Somehow, in comparison, I find other great pianists' Bach as a bit sloppy and "romantized", except the Pogorelich of just before his "Long Absence ", who was also excellent in my particular eyes. Many thanks for bringing it here.

The piano seems to become a magic box where Alexis has fun with her fingers throwing pearls that run and bounce, are picked up and thrown again in a sort of continuous magical, splendid, perfect game...

Weissenberg is better than Gould in this piece--- they are equal in intellect, in temperament, they know what they want to do with the piece, but Gould's start-stop staccato (esp. in the arpeggiated chords) gets on my nerves here. Maybe Gould was trying to imitate the lute, while Weissenberg the harpsichord.

Agree with you. I like his unfussy, but charismatic way in the largest of Bach's Keyboard suites.

A valid view, but I heard him often live, and the powerful sound was beautiful in the hall. Great artist.
