My God... I have listened the Prélude, Fugue et Variation several times in my life but this is absolutely THE version. Nowadays there are not so much musicians capables of trasform some notes in something so musical, so trascendent, so divine. Rest in peace Alexis Weissenberg. Thank you for sharing the wonderful painting and the way you see the world, gullivior.

He is also my all time favourite!! I had the opportunity to see in the 80 s playing the Prokofief 1 concerto in Cincinnati and got an autograph from him which I cherish! He was also a very nice and good human being! Will miss him!! No one compares to him!!

@@dmburke007 The same I can express after listening for years but having and opportunity to play accompanying him as the orchestra's member. My amazement with this late Master of Masters never faded out. There is no any other to fill in the emptiness which Weissenberg left after his departure...👍🏻
I love the fact that Weissenberg manages to use very subtle rubato without distorting the rhythmic flow of this music.

Of all the beautiful performances of this sublime work one can hear on YT this one I find the most compelling. Weissemberg's tempi, particularly that of the fugue, are fantastic, his sound, the way he brings out the polyphonic texture, everything about his interpretation is absolutely memorable.

I love his playing, he is unique in my opinion in the use of the pedal. He manages to play a chord which is sustained then as the chord is still audible plays over it which creates this unique effect. One of my favorite pianist of all time!. Rest In Peace!.

Le regretté Alexis Weissenberg était loin d'avoir la froideur du joueur de poker qu'on lui reprochait souvent. S'il en était besoin, cette interprétation, toute en émotion, nous le prouve.

in the prelude, I really like the changes (at least compared to what I'm used to) start at 2:21-2:42. similarly, in the variation from around 8:25. excellent. Where can I get a copy of this exact score, of are these Alexis's own changes?

Franck was forced to become a piano virtuoso by his father. That's why this piece is for organ. Otherwise it would have been for piano, obviously.
