@BGK2223 - The cameramen are important, but they're not calling the shots. The mind behind the visuals is the video director. He knows the song, knows who is playing what parts, and directs the video engineer to switch between multiple cameras. Each camera man is wearing a headset, and the director sets up the shots, calling them in advance - "Camera 2, go wide and close on Jerry's dobro to pick up both hands...", so the shot is already there. Then, when Jerry's solo comes up, the engineer switches to Camera 2, and...ZAH! - it's right there. They probably had a chance to run through the tune in a sound and video check, so the cameramen and engineers already had a good idea what needed to happen during the show. With a director who knows the music, it all comes together and looks smooth and perfect, like in this video. But all of these guys are masters of their craft, and the best of them can do a great job on the fly if they have to.

That 'slide guitarist' is Jerry Douglas who plays in Union Station, Alison Krauss' s band. I watched a video on his guitars he plays and they are very, very special instruments as well. His biggest asset is his feel for how many notes are required in each bar - sometimes one or two, sometimes a high-speed run of notes. Pick up the album "New Favorite" by Alison Krauss & Union Station and you should love every tune thereon. ;--)

Found this performance a few years ago. So glad to see it again. This version is transformative. Shawn and Allison stay right where S&G were and Jerry Douglas adds an entirely new dimension to the song. Listening to these women and the guitar takes me back to the sixties where a lot of us believed anything was possible.

@@talbotsplace7316, we’re in a very dangerous place. The most extreme voices are making it HARD.

This listening is the first time I’ve heard The Boxer as a tale of dissociation. Allegories of putting up a false fighting front: I disappeared but the Boxer still remains. Beautiful tale of toxic masculinity in a mellow driven melodic rhythm.

@@davidgoldberg4116 Bud, in 1970, this was a Paul Simon signpost of America's sea of consciousness direction. The generation of JFK's hopeful Camelot, had one dagger after another, perforate their spiritual conscience. 1.) JFK, .. 2.) MLK, .. 3.) Robert Kennedy, .. 4.) 1968, .. Chicago & Mayor Daly, 5.) Richard Nixon, .. 6.) Vietnam. Simon was showing us the way to escape despair. ... the spirit is leaving, .. but, the fighter still remains. Go, re-listen to the WHOLE verse, .. 'In the clearing stands a Boxer, ...and he carries the reminder, of every glove that laid him down, or cut him, 'till he cried out, in his anger and his shame, ...' .Had nothing to do with masculinity.

A perfect combination of vocals...I have never had the pleasure of seeing Alison Krauss live, but I have had the pleasure of seeing Shawn Colvin numerous times, and her concerts never disappoint. These three together did a beautiful job, two thumbs up.

First time I've heard this - have played bass for 47 years, sang on church worship teams for the same time. Their vocals alone are phenomenal, everything else being top notch is icing on the cake. Spectacular

still one of the Greatest Songs of All Time covered by two of the Greatest Singer/Songwriters of All Time ... it captures the Essence of Life's Struggle ... despite having the skills of a Boxer in dealing with Life's Challenges we discover that what keeps us going when we're getting the sh*t kicked out of us is to find out that we are, indeed, Fighters ...

I’m so delighted to hear such sonorous instrumental score blended so beautifully by the mellifluous harmony of these two wonderful singers . A real tribute my all time favorite number of S&G . Exceptional arrangement

Okay, the flood gates opened, here comes the water works. I've always loved Alison and Union Station, great music they made. Doesn't matter what genre, Alison plays great fiddle and she makes me get emotional.
