It’s with great pride and honor that Pipoca & Nanquim announces: in this very moment, History is being made in Brazil! Imagine the greatest comic book writer of all time, the most acclaimed, hallowed and worshipped.
Now, imagine that that same writer produced, for six years, an acid, critical, intelligent, grown-up, funny and dammned newspaper comic strip in which he could distill all his opinions about subjects ranging from politics to religion, dealing with socio-economic problems, marginalization, prejudice, among other relevent issues.
Finally, know that this exact work had fallen into ostracism and remained 30 years out of print all around the world, until having been rediscovered by a trio of Brazilians who are passionate about what they do.
All right, you can stop imagining now, because this is all true. The author in question is the Story Wizard, Alan Moore. The work is Maxwell, The Magic Cat. And the trio, of course, is Pipoca & Nanquim.
Get ready to meet the most personal work of the notorious English author and to be surprised. As if this wasn’t enough, PN prepared the surprise of the decade: 200 autographs of the Master that will brighten the shelves of 200 lucky guys! Check it out, it’s one of the most bombastic announcements of the year, the RELEASE OF ALAN MOORE’S WEEKLY COMIC STRIPS!
SUMMARY OF MAXWELL THE MAGIC CAT:
Before V For Vendetta, Watchmen and Swamp Thing, there was... Maxwell The Magic Cat!This is one of the first creations of the comic book genius Alan Moore, written and drawn by him, that finally comes to Brazil in a complete and worldwide unprecedented edition, 40 years after its publication started.
Maxwell fell on Earth coming from Space but to this day no one knows his true origin! What we know is that he is a talking cat who landed in England to completely shake the life of the boy Norman Nesbitt and his surroundings.
Its stories were told through weekly comic strips, published by the Bristish newspaper Northants Post (of the city where the author lives), from 1979 to 1986, offering the readers an opportunity to get to know a unique facet of Alan Moore who, with his acid humor, found in Maxwell the ideal character to critize the social, political and cultural debacles that devastated the country and the world at that time and that remain relevant to this day!
The volume of publisher Pipoca & Nanquim, a hard-cover book with a golden hot stamp and dust jacket, is the only one in the world that recovers all the strips of the magic cat, subjected to a careful restoration process, and even counts with a foreword by the artist Eddie Campbell (From Hell), an afterword by Alan Moore, an art gallery exalting Maxwell’s feline exuberance by artists as David Lloyd, Kevin O’Neill and Brian Bolland, among other appedices that highlight why this is one of the most important works of Moore’s career.
