Allen Drescher found Ashland in 1972 after a lawyerly stint in Portland. He put out a shingle and after a while clients found Drescher and came to trust his judgement and sense of fairness. Drescher is well known and has served the community not only as attorney but also as Municipal Judge, from 1979-2007. His volunteerism extended to the Ashland Family YMCA (he bought the first soccer nets) for many years and in 2002 was named Citizen of the Year by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce. In this brief look back, recorded in July 2019, Allen Drescher muses on the changes he's seen in Ashland from his own personal perspective and also as an attorney. Drescher credits two individuals as being instrumental in the transformation of Ashland over the time he has been here: Sandra Slattery, Executive Director of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce and Lisa Molnar, former Executive Director of the Ashland Family YMCA. Look for Sandra Slattery and Lisa Molnar's stories in the Stories of Southern Oregon collection.
