Knee to Know Ep. 109
Interestingly enough, hip pain after knee replacement surgery is a common issue after knee replacement surgery.
Why? Things going on at your knee joint including pain and range of motion deficits are going to effect how your knee moves and how other joints and body parts move. The body is an interconnected chain. If you impact how your body moves, different body parts are going to experience different forces and stress that it may not be adapted to dealing with.
Also, your body is in a state of recovery and hyper-sensitivity, and you are probably starting to increase you physical activity level with rehab and recovery.
What can we do about it? First you want to screen out the low back and address any issues or concerns with the low back. At the hip itself, an important focus is on building strength and durability in the muscles of the hip. Focus on dynamic multi-joint strengthening exercises and on single leg exercises that incorporate unilateral strength and movements. Lastly, consider how you're moving throughout the day and look to improve any big picture concerns that may be present.
