___FetchMeTheirSouls___ FetchMeTheirSouls lol I'm a female but yes I agree. Some friendships don't last forever and in spite of how much that kind of loss stings, it's just the way things are sometimes. If someone doesn't deserve your time or appreciate it, cut them off and move on. Focus on what makes you happy. It hurts less in the long term. That is, when you've freed yourself from what could have ended up being reoccurring bouts of confusion and hurt because of a bad friend. I'm glad I could cheer you up. One day your 'friend' might realise what they've thrown away or maybe not. But good things don't happen to people who treat their loved ones like shit.

+bert smith LOL What? No, it's that in 1987 seeing a video camera was a rare occurence. They were not anywhere NEAR as prevalent, mostly due to the cost of those. Cameras back then like the one they used in the original video were at minimum a thousand dollars. They were also not like smart phones where you *needed* one. They were either something you needed for work, or something you got because you were really wealthy, but they were still somewhat of a novelty back then and relatively new on the market for the regular consumer. Fast forward 30 years, we have cameras literally in everything. My fucking fridge has a camera and a television!
@ChrisIller
8 жыл бұрын
+S So - read my blog on this. Cameras weren't built into phones back then, but they weren't rare either. They had just exploded as the new item to get. I was a college kid that bought one...and I wasn't rich. America's Funniest Home videos was showing videos from the '80s when it started. We were living and working at Disney World...we all saw home video cameras every day...lots of them. They weren't rare occurrences to the folks in this video.
@sso1620
8 жыл бұрын
Well, we got one in 85 and it was around 900 dollars which was relatively big of a purchase for us. We got it because my father and grandfather both had a passion for film and cinema, and also incidentally worked in the industry! They weren't /common/ by any standards though. By 87 you started getting the JVC home camera which was I think about 600 bucks, and a few others, but it was definitely still a huge novelty. Also I'd definitely say the atmosphere has changed quite a bit too, and agree with you but for a few different reasons. I remember disney in Florida (this is the one I went to) and the surrounding area back in the early 90s were pretty full of life, and it was also the time of a pretty big surge economically. Now... not so much. A lot of that has died, at least the area we stayed at. Not sure about this 7-11! ..are you the guy who filmed this and the original one? I just realized halfway through typing this! You really did manage to capture a lot of the nostalgia of that "era" from like '85-'98 in one take... Maybe it was just that store. Do you have a link to the blog? I have a few minutes now. Curious as to your take on it! But overall, I think it's definitely the shifting attitude, wealth, people in general in specific areas that would affect this the most. Also I think you said something about the bars closing crowd? That'd DEFINITELY have something to do with it haha

Its imperative to note to all the people saying "look how bad things are now" "people are so much less social now" that in 1987 when someone pointed a camera at you it was a big deal. Filming wasnt a common event and it was something that did not hold such a stigma. This is not to say the there has been a massive degradation of the quality of people but now when a camera is pointed it is usually not an invitation to wildy uninhibit oneself. Just because something is more ubiquitous and has modified behavior should not be translated as "people are worse now" The LENS at which these people have been documented on has merely changed.
@brendank

@yugiboy1649

As much as i agree with that, times were more ephemeral. Even if you did get recorded, it wasn't a documentation that could tarnish you for life (the lengths one would have to go to were more akin to publishing than updating a profile). I feel like people are far less open/willing to experimentation now because something/someone could be keeping a record of everything in real time.

I think what some people are forgetting is that cameras were a novelty in 1987. If someone was filming you "pre-internet," there was less hesitancy about what might be done with the footage, and even some inherent pressure to perform for the camera. Not saying that our reliance on technology hasn't also degraded our social skills.
@luckycatstrike

I don't know why so many people find this video more depressing. People seem friendly enough, just a little shy and maybe sleepy because of what hour it is. You also have to remember back when the original video was shot you didn't know someone was going to upload it to the public for everyone to see - nowadays if someone's taking a video you kind of assume that's a possibility so you act a little more reserved. I don't think it's 'bad' - just different.

This is depressing compared to the 1987 version. People have changed and not in a good way.

Its all the Autism and computers dood. People use computers today like its some kind of Idol and spending too much time on it has made them too anxious to speak to other people. I know that feeling, back before I had a computer I was very social, these days I don't even wanna walk up to another person and say hello to them. Whenever I see people in the street I want to get past them quickly so I don't have to talk with them. Something evil is controlling society these days.

This makes me sad. After watching the first video compared to now there has been a dramatic decrease in morale in American 7-11s. It sounds stupid but, it is depressing to see that within a few years so much has changed to make in communication. People are no longer relaxed but, instead are to an extent anxious and cautious about the people they talk to.

I mean, let's face it though, if it was 11 at night and you had a really talkative guy pointing a camera in your face and engaging in random conversation, you'd be a little uncomfortable too.

obviously people are gonna be more quiet and less willing to interact, now anyone can film anything whenever they want and as a result it isn't as exciting to be on camera as it was 30 years ago

No... The internet, TV and video games changed people. People used to be more outside and therefore more outgoing back in the days.
