Regarding the credit card post: it is NOT uncommon for parents to let kids use their debit/credit cards. The Karen is jumping to all sorts of conclusions about these kids (“she’s never been told no in her life”, she’s performing fraud, etc.) without knowing the context behind them. It’s entirely possible the dad did let her go shopping to collect points.

I used to be on that subreddit a lot. The people asking can be genuine and sometime it's not that deep but ffs the people on the comments are fucking insane. Aren't qualified is an understatement first of all they downvote you for not agreeing with the general consensus which is so stupid because op is literally asking for opinions and downvoting opinions is against the rules of the sub. But it's like a circlejerk of asshole I swear. Lots of people are trying to normalize people acting like asshole because they feel like it was justified. A lot of people will say "You're not the asshole because this person deserves it" ignoring the fact that the reasons doesn't make the actions okay. If the person insulted someone it doesn't matter if the person said something that was annoying. It's an asshole move to insult someone.

The teacher was spouting some horrible nonsense about how women's rights are not legitimate, something everyone knew was false, but everyone was afraid to speak up or else he would fail them. Nobody spoke up. Well, One student raised his voice. The professor was shocked, he couldn't believe it. The classroom couldn't believe it either, and at the end he had logic on his side, and at the end of the day, he proved his point. That student, was Albert Einstein. I'm wondering if there was more to it that the dad wasn't paying attention to. He said the new GF has a "dark sense of humor" that he loves. That can run a couple ways: either she's kind of edgy but clever, or she thinks it's funny to be offensive and make mean jokes all the time. If it's the second, perhaps the daughter couldn't stand it and eventually snapped.

Yeah he cried and everything. He obviously had some built up trauma from how shit his dad had been to him throughout childhood. Thing was, it wasn't even necessary - he still kept up with responsibility in everyday life. They could have just put some of the toys in storage to make room for the baby or shifted the toys around the house. It could have been wonderful to let the dad play with those toys with the kid when they grew a little. I'm a huge believer in keeping strong contact with the spiritual concept of your 'inner child' while taking on the responsibilities of life, too. It keeps you young and prevents the world from aging you and tiring you and your spirit out. I would have totally just let the bf play with the toys, hire a therapist to help him work through any issues he feels he needs to work through, and told the stupid busy-body friends and asshole father-in-law to go rectal-inhale a fence post if they're going to keep hurting my man.

Robin Gerow Unfortunately, if it did turn out that the girl wasn't supposed to be using her dad's card and the cashier had been told that, they have very little defense for allowing it to still be used. With the way most terminals are set up now the cashier never sees the card so can truly say they had no idea it wasn't the actual customers card. Though, I agree it absolutely wasn't the poster's place to say anything.

Amie Harrison is that a cashier’s legal responsibility though? Unless the store has a policy to check IDs on all credit cards and the names must match (I worked at Goodwill for a while and they had that policy) I wouldn’t think they’d be held liable for credit card fraud. I would think if the girl had used her dad’s card without permission and the dad pressed charges, it would just be between the two of them, the places where the money was spent wouldn’t be involved. I don’t know though, I’m just curious about the legal implications.

I relate to that first Reddit post with the father and the tuition except it was my brother who was paying for my college and supporting me during my first year and a half in college. Then I came back home during a break and my brother got a new girlfriend that I didn't like because she had also been with other brother and made a joke saying that she was moving in from family member to family member. Basically, I was not really happy whenever she was near me and I did give her attitude and was rude towards her because I did not respect her at all. Eventually, my brother got sick of it and began belittling me calling me a parasite and that I was nothing but a leech despite him being the one saying that he was going to pay for my schooling. He called me ungrateful and threaten to not pay my tuition anymore which he eventually stopped doing but I, later on, proved to him that I didn't need him because I got a job and was able to handle my own shit. Still in debt but never going to ask anyone for help because he helps that tuition over my head like a threat for any little thing I did.

Something kind of similar to the credit card story happened to me when I was 12/13. My dad gave me and my older sister his credit card to go buy a bathing suit at the mall while he poked around Best Buy but when we went to check out the cashier refused to let us pay with the card and we had to call our dad and have him come over to prove that we didn’t steal the card. As if a 12 y/o and a 15 y/o would steal a credit card only to go buy cheap bathing suits lol.

idk why the cashier in that story would be like "yOu CaNt UsE yOuR dAdS cArD" because i used my parents' credit cards and IDs at stores all the time before i turned 18 (because i wasn't old enough to get my own and we didn't always have cash) and literally no cashier has ever pointed out that the first names and photos don't match because they're CASHIERS. i could hand them an ID saying i was darth vader and they wouldn't care
@Chemeleon15
4 жыл бұрын
It’s actually company policy, in many businesses, for the cashiers to check the name on the credit card against they’re membership card or something similar. If the cashier has any reason to believe that the person using the card isn’t the person that the card belongs to, then they have to refuse the sale. Where I worked, if I overheard someone, even a grown adult who knows the PIN number, say that they’re using the spouses or relative’s card I was supposed to stop the transaction, because “ you don’t know what’s going on at home (s)he could be trying to put the spouse in debt.” Same with food stamps cards Legally the cashier can be held accountable for any illegal activity that befalls the card because of that transaction. But they can always deny knowing anything. I never followed that policy because I’m not an asshole and I, myself, have used someone else’s card to complete an authorized purchase. I definitely wouldn’t want that happening to me.

Counterpoint to the first story: that is such an incredible privilege to have a parent be able to pay your tuition, not a right. So it looks like her choices are try to fit in with the family and have her tuition paid, or get a job and student loans like the rest of us. That makes me take the dad's side a little bit.

I take the dad's side a LOT actually and I don't understand how anyone can see it any other way. When my parents had a hideous divorce while I was in college (and as the only child it all got dumped on me from both sides) I started paying my own tuition because I understood they had other shit going on, and I was thrilled when they got new partners because it meant I didn't have to worry about them crying themselves to sleep every night. I'm sorry but "A" is a brat. Nobody OWES you college tuition. Especially not if you can't muster putting a little creative thought into dealing with your feelings that hurt the only parent you have left.
@cocolime6496

Having your family be rich enough to pay for your tuition is a privilege. Providing for your child's education is your duty as a parent, not a privilege. You can't hold someone's university tuition hostage for every slight they commit, however despicable. In this particular situation the father is in the wrong.

That last story made me sad because men never realize, or care to learn, how much pregnancy dramatically affects every aspect of women’s lives. Men just have sex then wait 9 months, but women experience daily pain, sickness, huge mental/emotional changes and huge physical changes that will impact them for the rest of their lives. As mystical and wonderful as people portray pregnancy to be, it’s one of the most traumatic experiences a woman can go through. With hormone imbalances, pain, and feeling terrible about the way you look, how exactly do you expect someone to act? She needs to see a doctor about these mood symptoms and get them in check, but having a husband that didn’t consider how inexplicably hard pregnancy is on the woman (effecting each one differently) and who is willing to throw her out readily is so sad. If she ends up having postpartum depression she can count on the fact that he will not be there for her, even though it takes 2 to cause a pregnancy. Men can always bail when it gets tough, but women can’t run from their own pregnancies or leave it to their husbands to go through. It bothers me that no one talks about the dark side of pregnancy.

The credit card one reminded me of a kid that was on Terrace House a couple years ago, Yuudai. It seemed that the general consensus of everyone else in the show and audience was that he was a lazy entitled teenage brat, but I just saw him as a sensitive naive kid that just wasn't quite ready for adulthood. There was an episode where the house members go shopping together and Yuudai uses his dad's card to buy a name brand something or other, and then later on one of the girls got drunk and started calling him out for it. He was dumb, for sure, but he was 19, and the way the older people in the house got onto him made me so uncomfortable. They're much older, much more experienced. I can understand them getting frustrated with him not being a great housemate, but I feel like calling out something that has to do with him and his parents, kind of crossed the line.

I'm so sorry you lost your father. I have two step parents, and If my real parents die before they do, I'll never see a penny of inheritance. They'll leave things to their own kids, and forget about the dead partner's kids, the dead partner who worked their whole life paying for it all. Yeah, it sucks, but that's how it works. It was never ours anyway. You gotta live and let live, be kind, and good to others. I don't see any other way to happiness, and you got it figured out right.

Haha I saw that card one when it first went up, did this woman not hear the Karen as she typed it!? My mum gives me her card to run her errands (vet, shopping, food etc) and will sometimes tell me to buy something for myself too. She would sometimes have to travel for conferences so would leave her card to feed myself and possible emergencies. The level of anxiety I got as a kid that someone would cut up the card was huge. FF to being with my partner, who decides to open his fucking trap at the cash register about “my mum’s card”. The look probably rivaled the girl in the story, not to mention the second and third time he did it AFTER me telling him you can’t say that in front of staff 🤦🏽♀️

I've been downvoted on relationship advice a few times for basically making the wild suggestion of "Maybe you should talk to your partner and work it through since you've been together 12 years?" If your partner got mad and called you a cunt or something that's shitty but it's really not worth ending a relationship over, unless it's repeated behaviour they do nothing to correct.
