@@TheAdventuresofTNT , unfortunately, most current musicians can't compare with these classic musicians. I strongly suggest "Perfect Strangers", which was an excellent song after Ian Gilliam returned to the band, and also "Space Truckin'" and "Highway Star". The live Space Truckin' from Made in Japan is great, but it's very long, so I don't know if you want to invest that much time, but it's outstanding. While you're at it, Symptom of the Universe from Back Sabbath is worth listening to, since it is the song where Iommi invented thrash back in the middle 70's (another day, another whole new genre for Iommi!).

U can hear on this 1970 record that Deep Purple was an experienced, seasoned rock band... this was their 4th studio album (5th overall) at the time - the members had been playing music for years, first in Roundabout, before renaming themselves Deep Purple in 1968... they had established themselves as a pop rock band, but were frustrated by their creative progress. Ian Gillan (vocals) and Roger Glover (bass) had played together in a hippie band called Episode 6... both were recruited in 1969 to replace 2 original members... Jon Lord (keyboards) suggested the band record a symphonic album w/ an orchestra in 1969, that became the 'Concerto' album... then Ritchie Blackmore suggested they follow Led Zeppelin into the hard rock sound... the first single was 'Black night' in 1970 and it was a hit. The chemistry in Deep Purple's 'Mark II' line-up was explosive in the studio and on stage from the 'In rock' album and beyond... in fact, Deep Purple's 1972 live album 'Made in Japan' is considered one of the greatest in rock history... (the late) Jon Lord said there was no studio work done on that album (like most 'live' albums😂) It was rush-released just because the band loved the tapes that they heard from the Japan concerts that were recorded. From what I gathered, Led Zeppelin's live album 'The song remains the same' was also not patched up in the studio - it was a raw, flawed representation of Zeppelin in concert... Black Sabbath had an unauthorized live album 'Live at last' which were tapes recorded from a 1972 tour released by their ex-manager... But of the 3 live records, Deep Purple's 'Made in Japan' was the fan favorite, purely on energy, intensity and precision... Deep Purple did record another live album 'Made in Europe' w/ David Coverdale (vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass & vocals) in the band, but it didn't do as well...

I started singing and the words came easily because we were all aware of the nuclear threat which hovered over us at this time which was probably when the ‘cold war’ was at its hottest ... So, we created this song using the Cold War as the theme, and wrote the lines ‘Sweet child in time, you’ll see the line.’ That’s how the lyrical side came in." Child in time te tocara el corazón y te reventara la cabeza. Una obra maestra fruto de la mejor banda de hard rock de la historia que incomprensiblemente es "ignorada" en U.S.A Solo hay algo mejor que esto y es la versión en vivo del Made in Japan..., muy pocas canciones tienen tanta intensidad, épica, virtuosismo y emoción ... tal vez sólo Stargazer Saludos

In my high school years in the early 70's DP were my number 1 band. Loved DP in Rock, Fireball and Machine Head plus more. Child in Time is a classic. I cannot believe this is over 50 years old now. Really so good, what a amazing build in tension and vocals and how they reset and rebuild so well done. You should also listen for Jon Lord on keys he was one of the very best. Yes it is an anti-war song and it is very emotive and a sonic movie. More DP please with Led Z they started heavy rock. Great reaction and enjoyed it so much I subscribed. Try Deep Purple; Highway Star, Burn, Speed King, Flight of the Rat, Black Night, Fireball, Space Truckn' and Demon Eye.

You need to check out Hard Lovin Man from this album. Also, their live video of Mandrake Root from 1970. Also you need to listen to Ritchie Blackmores Rainbow video for Mistreated from Munich 1977. Thanks!!🤟😊

To me, this song is about someone who killed people (possibly in war) but survived and his conscience is slowly killing him. The line "you better close your eyes, you better bow your head and wait for the ricochet", to me implies that someday, the implications of you killing will ricochet back and hit you. In the ending crescendo, is when the guilt take full control and he kills himself as a result. Thus the sudden ending.

Purple's concerts were a trip. They would go into long jam sessions. You can imagine that the atmosphere was mind altered, to say the least. Quite an experience.

Firstly, I prefer studio to 'live', but as always, there are exceptions. This is one! The BBC, video recorded a live performance of this very song, and sonically it was as good as the studio version. It was done '70/71 or so. The nice thing is, you get to watch them perform up close and personal doing their craft. No, the audience is dead (or uncaring) The BBC requested that they hold their applause til end, so they could get a clean recording, and they did. It was worth it. You owe it to yourself (and wife) to give a listen/view in the future.

During this era, many bands and singers were making songs to protest the Vietnam war, and this one is one of those masterpieces and a total classic that does, in fact, reflect on the Vietnam war which was a disaster.

It's not about America's War on Vietnam. They were an English band, Britain wasn't involved, and it was about the Cold War, as Gillan has said.

You nailed the interpretation of the song. I couldn't agree more on this one. The only thing I would add is that Ian's scream might also have a more universal meaning to it - at least it does to me - his scream epitomises pain and suffering that all of us carry inside - for different reasons. That's why this song is immortal - it will speak to so many people for years to come. Anyway, thanks for this video, imo the best reaction to Child In Time on YT.

You are one of the very few reactors who acknowledge the great guitar solo being played, not as that guy playing the guitar but acknowledge the great Richie Blackmore, thank you TNT!
