Something people who don't drink a lot of coffee won't realize is that when you do the sneak a cup thing is that the second cup will be much weaker and sometimes watery. It's because most the dissolved solids and almost all the oils will be in the first cup. Either toss a bit more grinds in when you sneak a cup or have patience!

For the heating plate, I would argue that a higher temperature is worse as it will “burn” the coffee more and you don’t need coffee to be that hot. You won’t be able to drink it until it has cooled to less than about 145F anyway, so I’d say the 12-cup Mr Coffee won the heating plate test.
@jurivlk5433

Correct! Coffee that stays too long on the heating plate tastes very bitter and the hotter it is, the bitter it gets. MV Donalds coffee is such an example or coffee from school cafeterias.

If you ever want to venture out I highly recommend a Bunn coffee pot. I can make a full pot between three and four minutes. Bunn is the only one that has the water reservoir that holds it at 200° so you never turn the coffee pot off. That way when you’re running late you can get coffee out quite quickly. I have had mine for 12 years and it’s my second one I’ve ever had to buy and I am 52.

This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact kzitem.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

I've had the Cuisinart one for many years and I love it. I love this machine, and think it makes the best coffee when compared to previous brands I had tried. The 1-4 cup brewing option is good when you don't want to make a full pot because it adjusts the brew strength so you are getting just as good a cup as when you brew a full pot. I also like the variable shut off. The bells and whistles on this model are actually things I use, unlike most appliances, where I usually don't go for the extras. You are right about it maybe being a little more difficult to fill, like many coffee makers. The solution I have found is that I have those OXO Good Grip measuring cups that are silicone. I fill the large one with water, then you can kind of squeeze them when pouring, to make the spout as small as you need it to fill almost anything without spilling. I have never spilled when filling my coffeemaker this way. Plus I can pre-measure the water, that way when I fill, so I don't need to see how much I am filling.
@ebels3
2 жыл бұрын
I usually just use the measurements on the carafe, possibly adding a half cup to account for evaporation. It depend on the machine how you will need to fill it, but the carafes are usually accurate enough to make a good cup of coffee.

We've had a Cuisinart for more than 5 years of daily brewing, and it still works perfectly...although I now realize we're a few thousands days past needing a new charcoal filter. I've been using my Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker that has a built-in bean grinder, for over 4 years now and I still love it. I can just load the machine with beans the night before, set the timer and by the time I'm heading into the shower the next morning, the grinder kicks on & starts brewing. Exit the shower & I get fresh ground brewed coffee ready to go. I also like that the lid of the carafe comes off entirely so it's actually easier to clean the pot properly though some people may feel otherwise. Taste-wise, I find setting the brew strength to High and using a really dark, black blend of roasted beans that comes from Indonesia or Singapore, gives me the kind of caramel, buttery taste that I really enjoy. Plus it gives me a buzz that lasts me through the entire morning, second only to an espresso. If I drank an entire 12-cup pot of it, I'd probably be able to fly to work.

Just a note to anyone using drip coffee makers.. never use the heating plate or let the coffee sit on an active heating plate when its done - coffee burns - those plates DO burn the coffee, making your coffee vastly inferior. Do yourself a favor and either turn off the plate / machine when the coffee is done or remove the caraf from it. If you need to reheat the coffee later, use a microwave, it is much harder to burn coffee that way and will taste a LOT better.

Boil water on the stove, pour it over the grounds in a filter in the cone, wait until it finishes dripping, and you've got tastier coffee than any of these machines. Costs less, too. If the coffee in the carafe cools down ... that's why you have a microwave. During the pandemic I got interested in high end coffee - burr grinders, specialty beans, scales, the whole shebang. Cleaning is easy, too. I brew like half a pot of apple cider vinegar and then two full pots of cold water. Good as new. Negatives:. If you are very aggressive with removing and jamming back in the pot, you can bend or even knock off the plunger. There is always atleast 2 drips when removing the pot before finished.

My problem with coffee makers is that the heating pad always corrodes from the element underneath and disintegrates over time. To counteract that issue, I bought a Bonavita Connoisseur, which does not have a heating pad, but appears to have tripled in price since I bought mine. I am very happy with it, though.
@5argetech56

You should stop using the keep warm feature. That's what really destroys the heating pad. Once you make the pot of coffee turn it off. If you want to reheat a cup do it in the microwave.

@@5argetech56 All the ones I ever owned never had the "keep warm" feature, and I always pour my coffee into a thermal carafe anyway (which the Bonavita comes with). I'm saying that the element corroded with the absolute minimum usage in all cases. At first, I thought it was something I was doing wrong, now I know it is just a flaw in the design of these things. But thank you for trying to help me out. Btw, coffee reheated in the microwave is gross. :)

@@PoofyPuff1 I completely agree with you about microwaving your coffee lol never never never! I do love my Bunn coffee maker, I am 52 and it’s the second one I’ve ever had to buy, I did try to get a couple different ones in between that were returned and I went back to Bunn. My dad was a coffee-holic before it was the thing to do. Lol he only drank coffee and water and he would drink several pots a day, he swore by Bunn and would never even think of a different coffee maker. So when I moved out that’s what I bought and I love it for the main reason is it has a reservoir that holds water at 200° at all times so when you pour in cold water your coffee comes out instantly, there is no waiting I can make a full pot of coffee between three and four minutes and they do have the one that has the carafe, it doesn’t even have a burner on the bottom. I have never owned that one but I have read reviews that rave about it because the burner itself burns your coffee essentially as it sits there. I do believe that’s the one I will go with next whenever mine finally dies. I will be sad when this one goes because I had bought it for my dad and he passed away before he could open it on Christmas 12 years ago so it’s extra special to me, I know it sounds crazy it’s a darn coffee pot but coffee was my dad‘s life and I bought it for him, you know.

@@mommashawna707 I was researching Bunns and the reviews said the new ones are not the same as those old ones! I make my coffee using a stove-top espresso maker aka "moka pot".

@@PoofyPuff1 first of all how crazy is that that you’re also 52. I am really not into the numbers thing or anything like that by any means I just thought it was crazy. Well hopefully mine will keep on going for many years to come because I like my coffee quick, I really do and that may be because we’ve always had one in the family wherever I’ve lived from my parents house to my house so I’m not used to waiting, call me impatient because I probably am lol My daughter is a barista and she has a Bunn but she also has her fancy machine that cost thousands of dollars at home. She has bought us all of the different kinds of things from French presses to I don’t even know what they’re called, my husband will fool around with them on Sundays but a normal work week we just want it here now. I’m also not a person to get into the fancy drinks I mean I’ll drink a white chocolate mocha but that’s on a very rare occasion. I’ve only done a little research into the new ones of the different kinds and have watched a few blogs and I haven’t heard anything bad except it doesn’t have all the bells and whistle‘s but I’m glad to hear that you have found reviews that have said otherwise because now I will look for them to know which one to avoid at the very least. But who knows there may be different ones that come out until we need one you know. Anyways I hope you have a wonderful day.

I drink a lot of coffee. My biggest gripe about almost every coffee pot I have ever used is that it dribbles down the pot when you pour it. About 2 years ago I got a Cuisinart coffee maker and this one does not dribble. I love that about it but it only makes 10 cups versus the 12 that I prefer.

The only thing I don't like is it only allows one time for the brew later so we have to set it for weekdays then Friday set it later for weekends. Other than that, it's going strong at over a year now.

I'm quite happy with my Mr. Coffee programmable which was also about $30.00 USD. I don't find the cooler holding temperature of the Mr. Coffee to be a con. My old Rival Maker (12 cups) has a pretty good heating plate for being old. It keeps a good temperature in the pot and if I leave it off for the night with coffee in the pot and turn it on in the morning, it doesn't really take too long to reheat the coffee, considering it is old. Even if the pot is at the 11 cups over night, it's not too bad of reheating time. If I were someone having a time limit (in a real hurry) for reheating the coffee on it, it wouldn't be a great amount of time for the reheat. But I don't have to worry about going somewhere so soon after waking up, etc, so for me the reheat time is alright on mine.

Taste is opinion. There’s chemical differences in what we’re talking about, very similar to cooking a cut of meat or a piece of broccoli. One could have a steak that’s cooked either with great attention to detail and take great value from that, or they could nuke it in the microwave until the color is gone and take great value from that. The difference might be that the nuke’d steak isn’t palatable to most people. Same here.

But, temperature IS important to a good cup of coffee. It's not a one-equals-one problem though. There are variables like coffee quality, age since roast, temperature, water quality, etc that will cause a change in flavor. About half the flavor happens before it gets to your door, but then the other half is how you brew the stuff. But, it's a collective and it's also an individual issue. It's each element that can cause a "bad cup", but it could be a combination. Granted, as you said, it might not be valuable to you. But, if you don't like the kind of coffee you're getting from your brewer, it might be that you're buying a machine that overcooks your coffee. Some people swear off coffee either because it isn't good to them, or it isn't good enough and they might be one to look at this and make a purchase only to discover that they still don't like it. It may be that the machine is giving them a sub-par cup for what they might enjoy.

I have a similar Cuisinart model to the one you reviewed - interestingly, mine has a very readable clock - and the one plus that it has over the others is that you can set the auto-shutoff up to 4 hours. (and, of course, it can be set to auto-start in the morning, etc) - yup, it was expensive, but it's solidly built and looks very nice on the counter.

We do have a Mr Coffee for brewing 8-10 cups of coffee. Used daily when I worked/commuted. Now, mostly use the Keurig. I make my lattes and such using Gevalias 2step frothing method. DH gets various coffee pods. Currently has a Guy Fiero container of mixed pods that he’s been using. No coffee after 10AM. Depending on weather and mood or f I’m sick, I’ll opt for no caffeine drinks, or decaf blends that I’ve heard has caffeine but in much lower dose. Some faves: Twinings English or other herbal tea mix and I also like the Alpine hot apple cider. Quick and easy peasy to make.

My coffee maker is a bit old now... It's a Rival 12-cup and is white. It has the water level window on the side It didn't come with a metal mesh filter tray, but I did get one long ago that fits real nice in it. No special displays or setting or timers. Just an Off/On switch on the front bottom that lights up when ON. So it's a simple maker for 12 cups. And that's all I need anyway, although it would be nice to have the feature to set an amount of time for it to auto shut off. Or to set a specific time of day/night on the clock would be better for me. Then I can have it go off when it's bed time or if I have a time set I'm going out.

This may seem like a weird take, but hear me out on this: I actually think that the temperature and brew pause of the 12 cup Mr Coffee can actually be seen as a big positive. First, I'm someone who likes a good warm cup of Joe, but when it's too hot, I feel like I'm waiting forever for it to be a nice drinkable temperature without having to take little sips. So, a cooler machine might actually be a pro for a coffee drinker like myself. Also, while the temperature is low, the consistency from that first cup to that second is amazing. You know what you'll be getting everytime you grab a cup. It won't suddenly be 20 degrees hotter and more difficult to drink right away because of it. You can go straight from cup 1 to cup 2 via the pause feature and it would feel nice and consistent.

It's expensive, but the Breville Precision Brewer Coffee Maker is the best on the market. I've had it for about 5 years now, and with a good grinder it makes great coffee. Most coffee makers are very simple, with a heating element which forces water to rise to the top and drip down onto the coffee. The issue with this method is the temperature of the water is usually too low (and variable) for a good extraction. When he does the "Pause and serve" and get 140 degree coffee, that's a huge red flag that the water is not being dispensed at the right temperature. There are other issues with cheap drip makers, like the hot plate, and the uneven distribution of the water dripping. These things make a big difference in the end result. Although the biggest upgrade anyone can make to their setup is grinding fresh beans. Getting a decent grinder and a $20 pot would produce better coffee than any pre-ground bean in the best coffee maker. I suspect this is why these reviews find all of the coffee to be about the same quality.

My Grandfather had a simple stainless percolator, collector on bottom, coffee/tea filter in the middle, and the lid to pour water in on the top...water drains slowly down steeping the contents and they drain to the collector.
