Glad you had a chance to try these flavours. We also have sour cream and chives and a dill pickle flavour that i understand not all areas of the states have access to. If you are looking for some other things to try you should look into the vachon snack cakes especially jo louie and Ah Caramel. We also have a brand called President's Choice (often shortened to PC) which has some interesting flavours especially their jalapeno potato chips. Hickory Sticks are also worth trying too.

Im inspired to suggest two dishes (deserts!) from Québec you could have a lot of fun easy cooking with these young ladies! Pudding chômeur (poor man’s pudding) was created at the time of the Great Depression. Grand-pères (grandfathers) are also a sweet bite, origins stories vary and often both made with maple syrup but which can be replaced. Great fun to see the girls enjoying!

If you want another Canadian brand of chips to sample you should try Hardbite, their ketchup and all dressed flavours are more intense IMO. They also have flavours like spicy dill, wasabi ranch, and ghost pepper for the brave. They also do carrot, beet and sweet potatoe chips as well.

As a Canadian I grew up and ate Old Dutch long before Hostess and Lays showed up. I loved Old Dutch but have always found them inconsistent in the amount of seasoning. One time you would get a flavour explosion, the next would be a bag of mildly flavoured plain chips.

Old Dutch is originally from St Paul Minnesota. They established a completely separate Canadian devision in Winnipeg Manitoba in the 50’s. I’m glad to see that you’ve chosen their ketchup chip as your favorite. I have to agree. You must try Old Dutch salt and vinegar chips. As far as I’m concerned that’s their best flavored chip. Growing up on the border in northwestern Ontario I remember Americans bringing them home by the case, including my cousins from California every time they visited. To this day they are my personal favorite out of and any flavor from any company. I believe that both the ketchup flavor as well as salt and vinegar were exclusive to the Canadian market.

I'm quite sure that the name 'All Dressed' is taken from the same term we use for 'All Dressed Pizza'. All Dressed pizza is tomato (pizza) sauce, cheese, mushrooms, pepperonie and green peppers (some use red peppers; but to me green is traditional).

Your girls are very cute! I am glad your oldest said that even though she didn't think she would like (the chips), she would give them a try. THAT is one smart girl! Sometimes you think that you won't like something because it is so different to what you are used to or it sounds strange, (& sometimes you won't like it) BUT THEN there are the OTHER times - when you may find a new taste that you TRULY love - BECAUSE you were willing to try it! Sometimes it even ends up your new favourite! (Even if it turns out that you don't like something though, at least you know what that something is now like because you were willing to try it! - right girls?) If you haven't tried "Hickory Sticks" yet, you should give those a try! They are milder in flavour & have a unique shape - esp. good with little hands - but good for everyone. Also, if you haven't tried our Vachon (brand) - "snack cakes & pastries", you may want to try them. We have some that are different from your snack cakes (& I don't think you have pastries like this?). Even the snack cakes that look like your Little Debbie ones - taste VERY different from that. Beside all the different chocolate bars we have from you as well, we also have our maple cookies & the VERY tasty (if you can find it) maple cream "confection" (SORT of similar to fudge - that is in the shape of little maple leaves.) As this is/around "sugaring off season", it may be possible to find these little "fudge-like" leaves more easily. (I think possibly even from the supplier you were using today.) (If you get it in the mail & it is NOT the consistency of fudge but harder - it is old & you aren't getting a good idea about how nice these things taste! - but they will still be nice no matter what if sucked on then.) As to the butter tarts - this is something you have to be very careful of if you want THE REAL THING! UNFORTUNATELY - there are many AN AMERICAN TREAT - being PASSED OFF AS Canadian butter tarts! I have a STRONG feeling that that is what you ate here! IF it LOOKS LIKE A MINI PECAN PIE (WITH OR WITHOUT THE PECANS), THEN IT IS A MINI PECAN PIE! REAL Canadian butter tarts DO NOT LOOK LIKE THAT! Butter tarts don't let you see the filling. They have a type of CREAMY, carmelized crust that is hard to explain. I just searched the internet for you. Go to "RockRecipes.com, The Best Classic Canadian Butter Tart" - the picture here shows you what a REAL Butter Tart looks like! (I don't know how the recipe tastes, but THAT is how it is supposed to look! ANOTHER hint that YOU HAVE BEEN DECEIVED & are eating just a mini American pecan pie tart(let) - is that there are pecans in it!!! There ARE NEVER & I MEAN NEVER! ANY PECANS in a TRUE, AUTHENTIC Canadian Butter Tart - & I say this as someone who knows & studies food & KNOWS my Canadian food! The ONLY choices in a TRUE Butter Tart are whether you (properly) put the raisins in - or leave them out. Leaving them out isn't even fully authentic, but as many people (including myself) don't care for raisins like this it DID become a way butter tarts have been made quite a lot, so it is still (fairly) authentic to have THE REAL recipe & leave the raisins out. If your girls will be able to speak enough (during breaks in the video), you should get THEM (& yourself) to review some classic Canadian children's TV shows that we grew up watching - both daytime & night time ones. You can see the differences & similarities with your own (that many of us could watch alongside our Canadian ones) & see what you & the girls liked/disliked, found different or surprising in the shows etc. (Maybe your girls will find some new favourite shows.) All the best & hope my info above can help.
@Carrie-so3ro

Just one more thing - sometimes those that "pass off" American mini pecan pie tart(lets) as Canadian Butter Tarts AREN'T TRYING to deceive you. Not as many people bake anymore & only know about food from what a grocery store (or even a bakery) sells - & what that store is LABELLING the item as. Even some that buy these treats FOR a grocery store from a factory call the item a Butter Tart because that is what they are being told they are. They may not even see the treat for themselves when they order them or may not have grown up on authentic baking from childhood themselves - to know that there is a HUGE difference between a mini pecan pie & a butter tart - never mind ever seeing what authentic early Ontario butter tart recipes look like.

If you like the Kit Kat bar, you should compare a Canadian one and American one. I was surprised many years ago grabbing one at a gas station in Washington and thought, you know I used to like these more. Next time I had one in BC I liked it. Turns out Americans are brought up with a more sugary chocolate in their products and friends down there preferred it. I like ours which to me tastes more chocolaty. Perhaps why ours are called chocolate bars and yours are candy bars?

Old Dutch created both the Ketchup and all Dressed flavours long before Lays brought them to Ontario (Old Dutch is western-based)
@TheJimprez

To me (I'm 55) Old Dutch is a scouring powder for the bathroom and bottles of bleach. Same brand, same logo. I only started seeing Old Dutch chips in the early 2010s. Personally, I find them to be of a lesser quality than the other mainstream brands, and they are often on special where I live (NOT out West, where Old Dutch rules). Lays are really good, but usually cheaper by about 1$ than the more expensive Ruffles and Doritos, and Lays are mostly straight-cut thin chips. We also have proprietary chip brands by each of the three main grocers. Some give you the old basic chip flavors, and some go out of their way to be exotic and pump out Asian, Latino, and US (Buffalo Wings, Southern BBQ, Pizza, etc...) tastes. The rest of the shelves have smaller brands like Ms. Vickie's, and
