If you want to make Nanaimo Bars just for adults - add Irish Cream or Kahlua to the custard.

Great job! Wow, even crazy baker that I am I've never tackled trying to make nanaimo bars - I lived in Nanaimo when I was a wee little lass. Merry Christmas to you and your family, John. Thanks for taking the time to learn about our great country.

That's wonderful! If you ever get the urge to prepare them again, you can also flavour the filling/custard...common flavours found are mint, raspberry, maple, caramel swirl. Remember to beware of the sugar rush! Enjoy a lovely holiday season with you'd family and friends 😊 and thanks for taking an educated yet sometimes fun interest in all things Canadian! Have a great year ahead as well!

Great job! I love that the kids participated in preparing them, too! They're learning about trying new things, as well as measuring, following directions, etc. and, perhaps most importantly, always ensure the mixer is turned off before you lift it from the bowl! Haha! Hope you all enjoy the rest of the Christmas season, and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2024! Love from Newfoundland and Labrador! ❤️🇨🇦🎄

Great effort! I make them every Christmas. We moved to BC when I was a kid and lived there until I was in grade 11. My grade school band billeted in Nanaimo once. My host family was lovely.

Hi from Vancouver BC 🇨🇦 I hope you all had a Wonderful Christmas 🎄 It's very cool that you are making Nanaimo bars. Fun family activity. I just started the video. So hope everything goes well. I think Nanaimo bars are delicious, They are very rich and sweet. So I definitely suggest having a glass of milk or other beverage to go with them. Have a happy new year.

Thank you for making a Canadian square. I’ve had them twice. The first time , they had a coffee flavour. Since I don’t drink coffee, it was a long time before I tried them a second time. When the second time came, they were delicious. Thanks for your interest in Canada, and I hope you and your family are enjoying the holidays. Your girls are lovely; you must be very proud of them.

A belated Merry Christmas to you and your family, John! So nice to see you and your girls enjoying a Canadian tradition (brings back memories) and it sounds like your family enjoyed it too. Looked great! Your daughter said it best - it's not about how they look, they're going to taste good. Perfect.

Thanks for another great video, keep them coming. I love Nanaimo bars, they're soooo yummy, I've never had them with nuts, but I bet that would be great. My hubby just had them for the first time and he loved them and he's not a big fan of coconut or custard. I love that your girls help out in the kitchen, great life skill to have, my son loves to help me bake.

Somebody put one over on you. Some hack of a cooking writer suggested nuts be added so that they could claim a variant to the real deal. Too bad you fell for it! Now I'm waiting to see if you went with the real non cooked bottom layer that is chilled only. I hope you got it right! Adding nuts or altering the traditional vanilla custard meets coconut flavour is just NUTS, particularly for the first time making (and tasting) this classic!

respects must be given to the _Snuneymuxw Nation_ , the Indigenous Peoples who, like the other west coast Nations, lived for centuries on this piece of unceded land prior to the invasion of the European Colonialists. "Nanaimo" is a verbal corruption of their spoken name.
@johnf-americanreacts1287

Yes. Thanks for adding that. I had said in the video that Nanaimo must be an indigenous word just as we have here and it’s important to note.But it was getting long and I fumbled my words during it so I cut it. Maybe that was a mistake. By the way, my town is called Massapequa. It’s a from the Lenape tribe of the Algonquin language.
