If you cancel the card does that effect your credit in a bad way? Would like to know since I plan on doing the same, but I hear Amex platinum might offer some type of retention offer? Or maybe downgrade to the gold card amex.

@@MrJrolon1975 Yes I’m pretty sure it does affect your credit score. It’s not really good to downgrade to Gold too. Unless you already had the gold before and got the bonus, it’s better to open a gold card separately to get that signup bonus.

The Amex Delta Plat offers sky club access for 39.00 per visit and the annual fee is 250.00. So another good alternative for people who only fly a couple times per year
You made a lot of valid points in this video but I feel you didn’t paint the entire picture of the platinum card and some of the other cards. Such as the $200 Uber credit $200 airline fee credit ( I’ve used to upgrade my seat a lot) $100 saks credit that is actually usable and can be stacked with discounts from shopping portals and other coupons. Then there is the $200 FHR credit. Yes you have to stay at least 2 nights, but if the hotel is $400 a night for 2 nights that’s $800 (outrageous) but if you factor in the $300 credit it brings it down to $600 then add in the free breakfast for 2 people for 2 days that’s about $80 witch brings the room cost down to $520. You can value the late check out and early check in to whatever number works for you but using just those numbers with the platinum card Amex is paying you at least $5 to hold/use the platinum card. Also once you factor in point earning and all the insurance with all the other perks non of the other cards on this list comes close to the Amex platinum

I wouldn't downgrade to the gold card unless you already got the bonus for the gold card. Once in a lifetime bonuses are kind of annoying that way.
I cant see giving up my Platinum card but I travel 10 times a year. When my son gets older and we aren't able to get away as much this will change. Even then, I still think a Platinum card complimented by no annual fee cash back cards might be the way to go for me. Great Video! Great conversation to have!
I will only replace my AMEX Platinum with Chase Reserve plus US Bank Reserve which probably next + two years I will apply for both as I have had Chase Sapphire for + 18 months which it doesn’t allow me to take advantage of Chase Reserve bonus till 48 months and US Bank Go for 3 months who I heard a lot of denying cases for US Reserve as US bank reminds me of Bank of America and Discover it which all are looking for relationships more than others

AR and Hilton Aspire duo works great: - Primary CDW (AR) - Priority Pass restaurant (AR) - Most powerful everyday multiplier (AR) - Global Entry / TSA precheck (AR) - Unlimited lounge access (Aspire) - Hotel Status (Aspire) - Complimentary hotel stay (Aspire) - Great travel protection (AR and Aspire) - Great purchase protection (AR and Aspire) This duo probably makes the best end game combination.

If you do - please consider waiting til like the 9th or 10th month to product change from Delta Platinum to Delta Reserve. Why? So you can hopefully fully use the Platinum companion pass, prior to product change, then pay the annual fee difference at a prorated amount then technically you are "renewing" to the Delta Reserve and will automatically qualify for the any fare class companion pass the Reserve offers.
This video is excellent. I want to thank you for putting in the work to make this video so valuable. You do a great job. Hope you're able to return to YT at some point.

I still value the AR due to 3x on mobile purchases. Four annual PPS passes for an effective $75 is a steal. Plus it’s a Visa which is invaluable overseas. At least U.S. Bank sent out a survey to card members on what they thought about some proposed changes. So far USB has yet to act on it. If anything they’ve a made positive change to the AR by making dining a permanent part of the $325 Travel Credit. The Platinum changes on the other hand, no one asked for. 🤷🏻♂️

My wife and I have had it for two years now. The $300 Marriott credit is no hassle. It even covered our hotel/park and fly package last year. Big surprise. The lounges have been nice especially ones with a children’s play area for our daughter. And we used our annual certificate and was also easy to use. People love to hate on the Bonvoy card. But we travel exclusively Marriott and it has been a phenomenal value!

I did see something the other day about this. It was for specific mortgage types. It would be worth running the numbers to see if they would benefit you long term
I think these changes are great, in general I’m ok with a higher fee because it will force some people to cancel the card and that means more space at the lounges. For my specific situation I’m coming out wayyyyy ahead still. What some people also need to understand is that these cards need to make sense for companies offering them too.

Thank you for giving such a great detailed on alternatives. I agree fully. Especially on the Hilton Surpass card. On a personal level: Hilton Surpass & Delta Platinum. Sure, $349 combined fees but I don't fly a lot and when I did want a SkyClub experience, $39. I came close to getting Surpass, but pandemic was fully going on so I opted for the no annual fee version for now. Long term: Delta Reserve. I do love Delta. I have the Gold. I plan to upgrade to the Platinum when I'm eligible to and honestly the Reserve to me is a keeper just for the any fare class companion pass certificate. That benefit alone can pay for the annual fee.
