Mary Cooney amen, right?!who could deny that voice and careless is really about the friends not the girl at all.she serves as a prop and that makes this song one of the best well articulate songs in a long time and I as I want him to stay humble &independent,it truly makes me nauseous that hooty was the blk token they chose in white boy country and not a deserving human being who deserved that award.hootie can't sing. And why do pop stars who fail miserably go to Nashville, and then lie.Ive always loved country blah blah blah,be honest-I'm a broke down singer and wanna move 2 Nashville.Seriously just be sincere and you'll do better. But I don't keep up unless I go to pandora for zak brown and a few original country singers that Nashville keeps around because ppl aren't buying all that bubble gum stuff.Anyway I'm rambling&I'm sorry for that on your response.✌😆

I believe that Amos is talking about how his friend took his girl when he was away. He blames his friend for lying and how their trust and bond as friends was broken. He also thinks his friend was careless for losing the girl too so that they both ended up losing the girl. Rawr. Me loves the song :)
