She’s awesome. I finally picked a date - FIVE YEARS from now - and have been watching for years. Felt awful for her in 2020. (Felt awful for ALL of us!) She has been helping me plan my hike and I SO appreciate all the the creativity and effort. AND HAVING A HUSBAND THATS OKAY WITH WOMEN LIKE US?!?? ❤❤❤ Mine has no interest, but is supportive…but I also feel guilty asking for MONTHS away. He also knows I’ll be impossible to deal with until I finally do this 😂 Love him ❤ (We’re both 45 - married for 23 because we’re complete opposites and he makes me laugh and just lets me be me ❤) Sounds like she also found a keeper. This interview was awesome and I’m absolutely subscribing 👍

Taylor is great. I find it irritating how some people are just looking for a reason to be critical. In my opinion they are usually just envious of someone else being successful and happy. We still live in a capitalistic country and the fact that Taylor has developed a way to do what she loves and still earn a dollars or two is fine with me. No one is forced to watch Taylor, or anyone else, but because she puts out a quality product people watch her and respect her opinion. In my mind that is what both America and the trail are all about!

Bit of constructive feedback: the music at the beginning is too loud compared to the voice recording. Probably should bring it down to maybe 50-75% of what it is in the future.

...Nice interview with Taylor ... She is an excellent representative for the hiking community and lifestyle ... It is interesting to me that each year there are more Hostels opening (not a new concept to European Hikers). A sign of the times I think... modern folks are seeing new ways to make a living while also providing a special service to AT Tramilys. It is Entrepreneurship, but on a level where people are not out to make a lot of money -- rather, they are on a mission to enrich the lives of others. Goes along with Taylor's Advice they are "doing what makes them happy".

The thing I liked most about Taylor in this interview, is how she doesn't want a bunch of people gathering around her to make it all about her. That took me back to the times I met Neil Armstrong in 1973, on a 16-day cruise to Africa and back to see a total solar eclipse. He was one of maybe 20 guest lecturers on a cruise with 2000 passengers and 1000 crew. He had walked on the moon 4 years earlier, when I was 11. On the cruise I was 15 and traveling alone, sharing a cabin with 3 strangers. For the first few days, I didn't know that my favorite ping pong opponent was his kid. Then one day Neil walked in, and it was just just him watching us play, nobody else around. There was usually a swarm of people around him looking for a moon story, a photo with him, an autograph, etc. We of course said hello to each other, but he waited until the game was over before asking for an introduction, and telling his son what he'd tracked him down to tell him, that Mrs Armstrong wanted him in the cabin in 35 minutes to get ready for dinner. I treated him exactly like I'd tread any other kid's dad, and treated his kid exactly like I'd treat any other kid. After his death, I saw one of his two sons interviewed on TV. Not sure if it was the one I played, or his brother. The comment of his which stuck in my mind, was that EVERYONE wanted a piece of his dad. A moon story, a photo with him, an autograph, and gathering around him like a bunch of pesky flies for as long as possible. Not most people, not most of the time. Everyone, every day since the moon landing. "All but one, at least" was a pretty nice thought that went through my head upon hearing that. Neil had noticed and appreciated it. He'd go out of his way to say hi to me. He chose seats near me at a show on the ship and introduced me by name to his wife as if I were an old friend. In port, he asked me in a fatherly manner if there was anything I needed before we boarded our different preassigned buses for a tour. And every time he was surrounded by the pesky-fly people and saw me, he'd motion me to wait a minute for him, or wave me over to join them all. He'd excuse himself, and off we'd go to let him escape the flies. It only happened a few times due to the size of the ship and the fact that I wasn't stalking him, but I'll tell you, it felt a lot better than just getting an autograph. Takers got a photo I didn't, an autograph I didn't, and the same sorts of moon stories I heard at his lectures or while he was finishing up with the flies. I got the respect and attention of my biggest idol, simply by asking for nothing and treating him as I'd wish to be treated if I were him. Isn't that the Golden Rule? Simple stuff. Today it's almost universal to throw away the Golden Rule for a selfie with even the most minor of celebrities. But on the other hand, I think a lot of minor celebrities want the attention. I really respect Taylor for not being that way. Like Neil, she'll have to politely deal with it as a fact of life. Be thankful it's just with a niche segment of the population, and not every human on the planet.

Taylor is not "just another hiker." She is knowledgeable, informative, and a great vlogger. I have learned a lot about gear and backpacking from her. Can't wait to visit her new store this summer! I would love her husband to talk about how he supports her. I plan on doing a thru hike in 2025 and have some guilt for leaving my husband. Hope to see you on Madison this summer when I finish my 48s. Thanks again Taylor!

Hey Katie, welcome to the channel! While I fully agree she is all of those things, I think sometimes it’s good to think of ourselves as part of one, instead of being completely special. I’d imagine it’s tough being constantly picked apart out of a crowd, sometimes it’s nice to just be seen as a normal human being.

@@blueandgreenslacks you’re a funny guy. She owns a retail store that probably does little business during the off season (thus, she can thru-hike) and very well during the summer (busy) season.
