You're hitting with all arms and upper back, coming forward into the swing. As you hit the top of your upswing and start down, drop your hips and pull down on the axe/maul, like you're pulling on a rope for a bell. Using your core plus better leverage means you won't wear yourself out so fast and you'll be more efficient with each swing. My father, a logger who's father owned a lumber yard tought me this and my years working the forests of northwest Montana bore it out. This small tweak to your technique will make a huge difference.
@krisyallowega5487
3 ай бұрын
I think the one aspect that "saved" him was that he whipped the maul into the log. Most when they "muscle" their chop grasp the handle too tight. As they tire their wrists "break" trying to control the maul. He wasn't worried or angered as the maul bounced a little. He was able to control it with ease and continue on.

@literallyshaking8019

Dropping your ass as you bring the axe down makes a night and day difference. You can get in the flow of swinging smoothly, letting the weight of the maul do the work and just maximizing downward momentum with your whole body (not just muscling it with your arms).
