I like that wrap around with no seams. The smallest leak in a box is a death nail when we have those bad windy cold days in Jan. I saw a YT video from a guy in WI where he had an unwrapped hive with a top vent on the north side of his hive and a south entrance. He had the hive out in the open winds and in the spring all the bees were dead and he poured water out of the frames. That wind blown snow had filled up the hive and all he said was he had a moisture problem. LOL

Oh goodness I think I saw that, it might have been in siren or Marinette Wisconsin but that was pretty funny.

Nice Mike! We're getting down around 17 degrees this next Friday....Shouldn't last too long though. You probably have as much warm weather in the Winter as we have cold weather. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

It's been kind of a crazy evolution to come up with this wrap. The funny thing is that the insulate of paint that I use would benefit you southern guys much more than me. Thanks for stopping by brother.

One other thing I do is lean up just above the entrance a wind break that goes from the ground to just above the entrance. This keeps any strong winds from blowing lots of air into the entrance. Since I don't use my telescoping lids I use them for a windbreak. I don't put those on until it gets really cold in Dec. and I take off in March before any warmup. I lean them at about a 30 degree.

Interesting. And that is not interfering with winter evacuation flights?

@@MinnesotaBeekeeper It has to be cold out before applying. Etinea (sp) from Alaska does this also. He claims it stops the bees from coming out. If they are coming out to die it doesn't matter. This is for a hobbyist that will take the time to take off and put back on if the weather changes too much. My bees in my outyard can really get some strong south winds.

A heated hive like the "Bug Farmer" uses would make real happy Bees. LOL
