Beautiful. I was contemplating buying a wista with a 6x17 shen hao back, but I think this might better suit my needs, since I really didn’t want to shoot 4x5. I already shoot 6x7. And the added expense of extra film drums for developing 4x5, plus a scanner for 4x5 was making it prohibitive. Nice job!
@Foxglove963
Жыл бұрын
The 6 X 17 format is not wide enough, hence I opted for 6 X 11 (they call it 6 X 12 but this is inaccurate). You can find real cheapo drums for development of 4 X 5" films, with an automatic turning apparatus that is also cheapo and is quite compact. With a 4 X 5" camera you can experiment with a wide range of lenses, including many from the 19th century. The 4 X 5" is a wonderful format. Have a look at the Epson Perfection V800 Photo flatbed scanner, this has programmes for dust removal and tweaking of dpi, (max 12.800) and tweaking of colors, it'll scan 35mm films and medium format, and 4 X 5" and 8 X 10" film formats.

great thinking, a darkslide, esp. in these camera designs means you can change the LENS mid roll to, so you are not stuck with one perspective for the whole roll, as in most Panoramic cameras the lens is leaf shutter, so no mirror (hence aux shutter or baffels to protect the film for lens changing), you need to think ahead, and plan the shoot, so you have the right lens on, when you add the film, as after this, you are 'stuck' until you remove the film again.

@chromacameras1715

The reason for 5x7 compatible lenses is the image circle (coverage), as the 6x17 format requires a lens with an image circle of at least 179mm. If the lens coverage is smaller than this, you risk getting an image with hard circular edges where the lens can’t cover the full width. Which versions of the 125mm and 90mm lenses do you have?
