Keith, I have a new Toro HD826OXE I got last winter and it worked well then, but this year I had a clogging issue in the past storm ( I'm in southern N.H.) with slushy, rained on, near freezing snow. I hard a real hard time clearing the clog - took a half and hour and wore me out. Any suggestions? Can I "Armour-ALL" the plastic inside to help prevent this? It was a slug of Slush farther into the throat that was impossible to get to and wouldnt clear. Thanks, Sandy.
@keithpetersen8114
5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandy -- sorry you had issues -- clogs come with snowblowers and slushy material. Certainly -- go ahead and spray everything inside the auger housing, impeller and chute with some sort of silicone (WD40, use your Armour-All, etc.) and that should make a difference. Also, of course, go a bit slower to try to keep the material from clogging up. It is a good unit and should serve you well.

Keith, do you think that Toro will ever put a remote chute deflector control on the 721/821QZE to go along with the remote chute rotational control? Like the Honda Single Stage unit has. Although I've noticed the Honda's controls can be a bit stiff to use sometimes. All of Toro's chute controls are very slick and eventually hope they can add this feature. Headlight would be nice also. But I guess that would get into the price point of the Snowmaster (which I own). I just miss the superior surface cleaning performance of my old traditional single stage. Great video BTW!!!

Hi -- thanks for the accolade! I surmise that Toro might do as you suggest. The earlier Honda HS702A and AS units did have stiff directional control issues on the chute -- the late generation units do not have that issue. And, yes, a good single-stage snowblower does a good job and cleans to the surface very well.

I have a dirt and gravel driveway, (mostly compacted dirt. I was coerced into buying a Toro Snow Thrower (the dealer called it that, not a snow BLOWER). Single stage with paddles. I've had this machine for 19 years this winter. The electric starter died 7 years ago but it's pretty easy to start. I'm a 64 year old female and wasn't told that this machine doesn't operate well on a NON-paved surface but since I paid over $700.00 (the new ones now are only $359.00), for this machine and the dealer would only offer me $400.00 for it (hadn't used it yet), I didn't have much choice but to fight with it each and every time I used it. The wheels are too lightweight and wimpy by the way. For such a small machine it fought me tooth and nail but does it ever fling the snow, right into the neighbor's yard if I'm not careful. Looks like a geyser. Their newer Power Clear looks nothing like mine as mine is more solidly build and has only a touch of rust on it after 19 years. I've never had to replace the paddles. The only problems I've had is struggling with it on an uneven surface, one wheel fell off, the engaging bar had to be welded, priming bulb and two hoses hardened, new spark plug, starter died and carb needed tweaking. Other than that I had no other problems. And these problems only started about year 2012. Tough little unit but today's newer model looks wimpy compared to my old machine. I also have an MTD Yard Machine 2 stage that is a beast but will handle anything, including dirt, rocks, grass, small children, animals, etc...anything in it's way. The only real problem I've ever had with that machine is one of the hand controls (flippers) got caught up in the sleeve of my coat and darn near backed over me until I was able to release the flipper from my sleeve. I've changed to Honda with my lawn mower (self propelled) and love it except for backing, (it weighs a ton). Should have reverse because it will wear you down fast if you have a landscaped yard with a lot of turning. I may just check out Honda's models of snow blowers this year vs. Toro because I didn't get much satisfaction with Toro service in MN (on the phone). Customer service is important, call them first before you buy, you will find out quickly if they'll take care of you in the future. EXCELLENT VIDEO, WISH YOU WERE HERE WHEN I BUY A NEW MACHINE - CAN I TAKE YOU WITH ME?

I had two Toros over the years before I spent big dollars on a commercial Honda. The Honda was very good and with its tracks so I could get over snow to the area I intended to clear but I was not impressed with the seemingly lack of power. The Honda would always seem to start dying when I hit any significant snow. Causing me to stop my advance and back up. I went through a large number of shear pins as well. I live in one of the snowiest places on earth and that is why I bought the vaunted Honda. I just ordered another Toro, the 14/32 and I almost can't wait for the snow to fall.
@keithpetersen8114

Thanks for your input. We sell both Honda and Toro. Toro makes terrific snowblowers -- the bigger, more powerful Toro's will compete with anything else on the market. Honda is a very conservative manufacturer, and the design of their shear pins is such that they will break quickly to prevent damage to the nose gear, etc. of the auger. Honda machines typically throw the snow farther than the competition. I don't know what model Honda you were using; but, it is pretty hard to get a big Honda to bog down in the snow.

Keith, I own a 2 stage and the overall auger speed is not as fast as the Single Stage or the Hybrid Snowmaster. With the 2 stage I can get up close to the edge of the driveway or sidewalk and point the cute down and it pours the snow nicely not too far into the snow pile. With the Snowmaster 724 or 824 can you point the chute down and control the distance it throws wet snow or powerdery snow? I have not seen many people with their KZitem videos on these show it pointed down. I kinda think Single Stage or these Snowmasters models really throw the snow and I don't want to paste the neighbours house windows or their cars in the driveway as we are on 40' wide lots in the neighbourhood. What would you say? I am interested in the Toro 824 QXE potentially down the road.
@keithpetersen8114
6 жыл бұрын
Hi - thanks for your questions. Yes, you can fully adjust the Snowmasters as to exactly where they discharge the snow. Auger speed on 2-stage units is slow and the 2nd stage - the discharge impeller - then spins at high speed and kicks the snow out. The single-stage units always have a high(er) speed impeller. The Toro 824 is a very good unit. I hope this answers your inquiries.

Keith. Your snowblower videos are great. Straight to the point, informative and no needless fluff. Hopefully, you have a suggestion. I live in Denver, where we can get large snows of 12 to 30 inches, but usually, the snows are two to six inches. Spring and fall bring heavier wet snows, but it is rare to receive rain on top of snowfall, so never anything incredibly wet and heavy like slush. My driveway is about 30 feet long and 35 feet at its widest. I can only throw snow on one side of the driveway as my neighbor’s drive is too close to the other side. That being said, I am trying to find a machine that will throw most snows a good 35 to 40 feet and go quickly. I also have a couple of patios to clear snow off of which are approximately 900 additional square feet, but the furthest the snow needs to be thrown from the patios is about 15 feet, max. Additionally, I often clear a neighbor’s standard three car-wide driveway, and a 15-foot throw for his drive is adequate. My goal is to go as fast as possible and finish the job done in as quick of a timeframe as possible for snows anywhere between an inch and as much as 30 inches, but as previously mentioned, two to six inches is the amount we typically receive. I had planned to buy a Honda 28 inch or Honda 24 inch with tracks as they appear to throw snow very far. Now I am considering a Snowmaster 824 QXE as it looks like more quickly move through the types of storms we receive most often of one to six inches. I am not worried about the higher cost of a Honda. Instead, I am more concerned with being able to get the job done quickly and preferably without having to go back over the driveway with a final snow shovel cleaning. Any help or suggestions you have will be very much appreciated.

Hi Adam -- thanks for the compliments! A Snowmaster 824 would be a good choice. The best choice is to have a single-stage Honda HS720AS or Toro Powerclear 821 QZE for the smaller snows, and a Honda HSS928ATD for the larger snows. Barring that, go for the Snowmaster -- it's an excellent unit.
