"And what do you sacrifice?" "Calm. Kindness, kinship. Love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I've made my mind a sunless place. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion; I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my...my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my...what is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy, to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything!"

It was a great success to involve Diego, not only as an actor, but in the development of the entire concept and story as an executive producer. Anyone who knows Luna's work knows that they will always find something authentic and profound. He agreed to return to the character after Rogue One because he wanted to tell Andor's story as it should be, a grown-up story of a rebel movement navigating between light and dark.

Kino at the end, heartbreaking. What an amazing actor Andy Serkis is. Regarding Andor and Melshi, i think his name is, I dont think it's just them two that made it out. I think they just all split up and went their separate ways cause maybe staying as a group wouldnt make sense? That's the only rationale I can think of.
@saintcynicism2654
Жыл бұрын
The rationale makes sense. You also need to consider that some would be stronger swimmers than others, meaning they wouldn't all reach shore at the same time to begin with. And even once they did reach the shore, there would likely be disagreements about where to go from there, plus the obvious reasons to avoid moving as one big group (easier for the Empire to track one big group than several smaller groups, etc.).

The prison escape is one thing. The Doctor's role will be overshadowed in all of this, I'm glad you pointed that out. Cassian and Melshi will soon join other key players in the rebellion. We know the rest. Another major point to this episode is Mon Mothma's sacrifice. She will have to let go of her daughter and that will be a point of no return. Perhaps not. Perhaps this is why the rebellion still uses old republic era assets we see in A New Hope. Also, It's cool to see that the colors orange and white are still worn by the rebels honoring the bravery of those in this epic escape. (Just a small Easter Egg some may have overlooked.) :)

So many amazing moments throughout this entire series but this is quite possibly my favourite episode. Emotional, dark and stirring. I have watched multiple reactors covering this show and the moment that Kino slowly raises his head and shouts “Attack” after the floor goes out? Every. Single. Reactor looks ready to join in and start swinging. THAT is powerful drama.

Early MAC squad reporting in ✨ *Madison's hype hand gestures* let's gooooooo 🤙🤙🤙 What broke my heart is when Kino revealed that he couldn't swim. He probably knew he wasn't going to make it out right from the start, but he still went along with it to make sure everyone else had a chance at freedom. Luthen's speech just gave his character so much more depth. He knows he's sacrificed everything he loves and everything he is for a cause he probably won't live to see come to fruition, but there's nothing else he can do now. ah HA so Melshi stuck around with Andor after the escape

kino was stressing out *during hs speech* because he knew there was only one way out and he couldn't take it. He said himself he'd rather die trying to take them down than give them what they want, hell he even told his shift that he assumed he was already dead.
The interesting thing about Lonni, the double agent, is that I realised he will get out, since he can be seen with the rebels in Rogue One. Hope they will show how that happens in the second season, since I doubt it will happen in this season already.

One thing you don’t want to do during a mass escape is go in the same direction as everyone else. Then there’s just one group of people to catch. The best chance you have is to scatter in as many different directions as possible, so it’s a good thing that they’re alone.

This is the 50th reaction I've seen where nobody can grasp the concept of splitting up after a prison break, haha! According to my limited internet research watching reactors of this show, 100% of all people would stay clumped in a ten thousand man group and beeline until picked up by the authorities. Just playing, but not really, but just playing. I dig y'alls reactions, thanks for sharing, it is appreciated.

All the prisoners would've split up as soon as possible. Staying together to get out of the prison was the smart thing...overwhelm the guards. But once they were out, that advantage was completely tossed, and staying together would just make them easy pickings to be recaptured, or massacred from orbit. Splitting up and spreading out as much as possible to evade and escape, is the smart play after they got out. That said, I'm willing to bet fully half of the inmates drowned, and that around half of those that reached land or something, were ultimately killed or recaptured. So, maybe between 1,000 and 2,000 guys actually fully made it out and eventually off-world.

They took Ulaf's body through the work area because there is no other pathway. There's no way out but through that lift and door. The cell block is a dead end. It connects only to the bridge, and the bridge only to the work area, and the work area only to the core of the facility. There are no other routes, anywhere. No service corridors, no emergency exits, no crawlspaces, nothing. One way out.

Kwame Ture (one of the founders of the black panther party) came up with the term "revolutionary suicide" to describe what Luthen is talking about in that monologue. It's that idea of being willing to sacrifice everything, including your life, to create that sunrise you'll never see. When you realize you're already dead most ppl turn to despair. That's where all the depression and anger and fear we see all around us comes from. Imperialism is slavery and only creates death, and fascism is just imperialism at the core of the empire. Fascism is when the tactics employed on the populations colonized on the margins of the empire are employed on the citizens at the heart of the empire too. When you live under the brutal totalitarian control of the (global capitalist) empire you're already dead, and on some level we know it and it creates that anxiety and discontent most ppl feel. When you'd rather be dead than alive, when you choose to kill yourself slowly with vices like drugs, or when you accept being worked into any early grave by the empire that's reactionary suicide, so Kwame Ture says the revolutionary is simply the person who stops engaging in reactionary suicide and instead chooses revolutionary suicide. As Kino said, "I'm assuming I'm dead from here" or whatever he said at the start of the shift. When you realize you're a slave, and you're never going to be free, you're dead anyways. The only way to truly live then is to rebel, and to rebel is to refind your humanity again, and that's revolutionary suicide. That's dying fighting them instead of dying to give them what they want. As you guys pointed out in your commentary history doesn't always remember the Cassian's and Nemik's and the Luthen's. And when you don't immediately win the empire gets to write the story. They'll call you criminals and thugs and terrorists and insurgents etc. That's what they did to the Black Panthers and revolutionaries like Kwame Ture, but in the end their legacy lives on. You can kill a revolutionary but you can't kill the revolution, and as we see in Rogue One it takes all the work of all the ppl we never knew for the heroes of the future to finally defeat the empire.

The two guys in the command center couldn't do anything anymore. They shut down the hydro generators. They couldn't power everything back up even if they wanted to. It's highly unlikely that the backup systems allow a total shutdown, simply because then even the guards would be trapped with how the place is laid out. It's possible the Empire would do that anyway...but unlikely. Once they shut down that main power...it was all over.

Somehow Genevieve O’Reilly was, at best, the third best performer this episode. The cast was on fire Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Leia…they all got the celebration. Luthen, Cassian, Nemek, Tamryn, Gorn, Kino, Jyn and countless others will get no statues, no songs, no poems, no glory. Yet they died all the same, for the cause, so a farm boy could deliver the blow

1:06 What's the title of this episode again? One Way Out ;) 16:53 Once they hit the water, it likely became everyman for himself =/ If you watch the escape scene again, when they're leaving the prison, you can see prisoners leaving from different exits, so they were all swimming in multiple directions from the prison. Look at Cassian and Melshi running, their are searchlights in the distance, so some of them might have been picked off already too ='( After all that, escaping and all, I don't see any of the prisoners surrendering. Another fantastic episode. Every episode the cast, crew and writers step things up, bringing their A-game. I feel sorry for every Star Wars series following this one. The bar has been set very, very high. I want this quality of storytelling moving forward, and sadly, I know we won't get it*sigh* I love the Mandalorian, but it's not on this level. At least we have one more season of this. 17:56 The Empire doesn't believe in guardrails, so why would they have life jackets? That said, the insulated boots should float. And even though we didn't see Kino leave the prison, I like to think that his speech rung in the head of his brothers and that someone eventually helped him out. We had multiple cuts to his opposite, the nightshift manager, during the escape and he's headed towards Kino. You'd think that either he or someone else on level 5 would help him out at the very least. I just don't think we're done with Kino, but time will tell.

Mon and Davo's meeting was also positioned meaningfully. Nobody will suspect them since their words on the surface is just a foundation funding, nothing suspicious. If anything, whispering would actually just rouse suspicions. Their distance tells a lot about how Mon feels about Davo's involvement in her plans. She talks closely and loosely with Luthen and Tay, not with Davo despite him being invited (since this idea is not to Mon's liking anyway). Tay, as usual, is observing both of them. Mon is stiff and uncomfortable, obviously putting up a facade but her fire spills when she talks. Davo is very confident and feels important because the truth, albeit painful, is that he is. Wealth speaks volume in their culture.
