I turn 55 in 2 weeks. Never done weights. Skinny fat potbelly. Lost 60# on carnivore, got off 3 prescriptions and healed 3 diseases. Just got rack, bar and plates. Starting “starting strength” tomorrow at home. Love your vids!!

I'm 55 too... trust me it will change your life. But follow the program. Do not adjust things here and there. Do exactly as they say.

I'm listening to this in between sets. I LOVE the fact seeing us folks in our 50s getting after it heavy & being healthy! Thanks for sharing your story Andy & thank you Ray!

I discovered Starting Strength at 58. Began NLP in Oct 2020. Went from 6' 190 to 250. I never benched 200 pounds. Today I worked out with 243 3x3. Finished with a 257 single. Deadlift single is 455. Press single 172. Squats best with good form is 3x5 352.5. Had to switch to 3s because I don't recover between sets well.

Been exercising and lifting since I was in my late teens. I'm almost 52 now and I look/feel like I'm in my 20;s still. Working out is a Job that you can never retire from. It's just something you need to do, to live a strong and healthy life. Don't be one of those people who can't get around or do what you want as you age. Be strong mentally and physically!!

I've put on thirty pounds over the last ten months at age 68 due to my training program based on squats, bench, deadlifts, pull ups, etc. I attribute my weight gain to the training i do, eating healthy, eliminating sugar and eating more protein and getting enough rest between training sessions.

I agree with you Ray regarding the need for competition etc. but I think the issue that starting strength and any competitor will face is despite the tried and true methods, the population is inherently lazy. And on top of that, starting strength is hard. I run the program and have made more gains in 6 months than in 18 years of training and still can’t convince my friends and relatives that this is the way. Maybe that’s on me.

You're spot on and we will happily serve those that have the grit and tenacity - they're the most fun to work with and the total addressable market is plenty big

Similar story here and I will sing the program’s praises whenever I can . Yet the people who have complimented me for my results and ask what I’m doing will NEVER actually do it when I explain .

“There’s no static state in nature”. You guys need to push that point A LOT more because people don’t seem to get that. Failing to get stronger means you WILL get weaker.

Funny how people would find him boring. Not me, anyone that knowledgeable is anything but boring to me. Boring to me is these "fitness influencers" amped up knowing nothing and preying on the dumb.

48year old man. Went from 155 to 205 in the last 10 months. On a 4 day rotation (one lift/day). No days off. Press Squat Bench Deadlift 3 warmup sets, then 3x5 w/5min rests. Only takes 30min each day. Too easy. ~250g protein/day ~3500Kcals *Tongkat Ali and Fadogia (no juice/protein powder). *Elk steaks w/ghee over white basmati rice is the secret weapon. Pressing 175 for 5x3 (just switched from 3x5). Squatting 325 for 3x5 Benching 225 for 3x5 Deadlifting 365 for 3x5 (alternate with pull/chin-ups every other session). One high rep set (a la Mike Metzer) of low cable shrugs for pre-exhaustion before and another set after press/deadlift and one set of high rep flys after press and pull-ups are perfect for rounding out the physique without impeding strength gains (yoked).

Hey guys, have you heard of ACSM? They have been suggesting progressive weight training for health for decades now

Useful is a subjective term, many "big guys" just take more resources and don't actually move anything that helps anyone. Useful to be strong yes. This idea that increases in mass equals increases in usefulness is not critical thinking. Increases in mass require increases in natural resource consumption and can offer a net negative to the efficiency of existence.

Weight on the bar. Reset after reset, change in rep count after change, increase in rest between sets. All programed by my SS coach. Nothing worked to move my heavy day past a single that exhausted me out of finishing the other programed lifts for that day. I ate enough and slept every available minute I could find.

Actually no extra T added. I've never had it measured, but I have to believe that my testosterone is pretty damn high. My energy and "willpower" level is very high, especially for folk my age.
