Andy Gibb died in 1988 at the age of 30 from the heart condition myocarditis. Maurice Gibb died in 2003 at age 53 due to complications of a twisted intestine, and his twin, Robin Gibb, died in 2012 at age 62 from liver and kidney failure after battling cancer. Yeah, guess Andy had a destructive behavior also according to some of his history from others.

The Bee Gees wrote this song. Barry, the oldest brother with that amazing falsetto, produced it and as you can hear, sang backup. If you go watch your reaction to You Should be dancing, Andy is singing with his brothers . He is for the most part sharing a mic with Maurice on the left hand side.

Andy was a genuinely kind and brilliantly talented young man. To this day, he remains the ONLY artist whose first 3 singles hit #1 consecutively on the charts. He was on the verge of a comeback with Island Records when he contracted Myocarditis (a virus that attacks the heart) and passed away on March 10, 1988, only 5 days after his 30th birthday. Had he lived, there is no doubt the future would have brought him additional success. Thank you for sharing his music with today's audience!!!

There is a memorial to him in my local Church graveyard in Thame Oxfordshire, England - a few yards away from his brother Robin Gibb’s grave. Robin died as a result of cancer in Thame in 2012. Andy died at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford in March 1988. Andy died of myocarditis at the age of 30, almost certainly caused by years of drug addiction. Andy’s brother Robin was a much liked and respected by the people of Thame. Robin bought the Prebendal (Bishop of Lincoln’s palace from mediaeval times onwards) where he lived with his wife Dwina. There is a blue plaque on the gatehouse wall of the Prebendal which commemorates his life. Andy’s last few days were spent with his brother at the Prebendal. Robin Bibb’s funeral cortège passed through Thame where nearly half of the local population turned out to say goodbye. We all gave him his final applause - it was an incredibly moving and bittersweet occasion. If you open up Google maps and search for Thame, UK - look for St. Mary’s church and you will see the site of Robin’s grave marked. Robin’s headstone is a bespoke work with the titles of the major songs he wrote carved on it. People from all over the world still regularly visit and place flowers and small gifts. Opposite the church is the gatehouse of the prebendal (marked dekar chauffeur services). The prebendal is along the path within the woods and formal gardens that border the River Thame. (Unfortunately, the street view images around the church date from before 2012 - but they give you an idea of how beautiful and peaceful his final resting place is).

I believe the 1970’s was the best era for songwriting, JB! So many genres of music during that time spoke of passionate love and feelings! Andy Gibb’s music fit that era of romance just perfectly! Andy’s use of drugs caused heart damage. Although his autopsy showed he had no drugs in his body, the damage to his heart was not curable. He was only thirty, and left a very young daughter and ex wife, who lived in Australia. Whenever The Bee Gees we’re performing there they always made it a point to visit them so the little girl would know that her uncles loved her and always reminded her that she was a Bee Gee! Recently many of Bee Gee kids have made an album, using most of their fathers music. It’s amazing how many of them are so musically talented! I think it’s called the Bee Gee Kids Collaborative.

I was just a little girl but I had the BIGGEST crush on Andy Gibb. I was so heartbroken when he died, but really deflated to know it was years of drug abuse that led to his demise. It just shattered my image of him. I was too young to have heard about his battle with addiction before his passing, so I had elevated him in my mind to perfection, an image no human could possibly live up to. I idolized him. So his passing and finding out the truth about his battle with drug addiction and depression was a bit of an end of a certain innocence for me. I remember it so vividly.

He was supposed to join Barry, Robin and Maurice after finishing up (what would literally be...) his last solo project. The Bee Gees little brother and teen idol! All Andy's songs were written by his brother Barry (some with Robin and Maurice)! the Bee Gees were one great talented family of boys (one sister, Lesley, was a Bee Gee for a short while)! What a time; poor Andy died two days after his 30th birthday. He was the only Gibb to get heavy into drugs and it messed up his heart; though he was off of the drugs at the time of his death, they did him in (as they usually do). SAD!

Hope you enjoyed this, and I appreciate this is for the UK. Sadly I don't have a comprehensive list for the US Billboard charts. ☺ I'd really urge you to try the Jacksons and Hot Chocolate tracks, which have a gentleness to them that really summed up the chilled romantic ideals of the nineteen seventies.

Hey James, if you are looking for another great music maker of the 70's, you have to listen to Barry Manilow. He wrote so many songs your grandparents would be familiar with, cranking out hit after hit. "Mandy" "Could this be the Magic?" "Weekend in New England" "I Write the Songs" "Copacabana" "Looks like we Made It" "Can't Smile Without You" "Ships" "Made it Through the Rain." and tons more. When you are ready for a romantic rabbit hole, check this one out.

Nice to see an Andy Gibb reaction. My favorite song of his was "I Can't Help it," which was a duet with Olivia Newton-John.
