Your tutorials actually made me to begin using blender. This one is also beautiful!

Wow this is really powerful in customization! It would be even cooler if it was in full 3d (like in botw, for exemple)

u can give it flames dat realistic anime (violet evergarden) look by keeping the saturation at around 0.5 value...............in ANIME COLOURS R VERY LESS SATURATED (around 0 to 0.5 for brighter colors)

Huge fan of the series but I think your nodes are way too complicated. Sometimes there are inputs that you don’t even want to change like the distortion for example

Thats valid feedback, I tend to prefer flexibility over ease of use that makes the shader harder to learn. I bet not everybody will like this and some things probably look overkill. Although I wouldn't give up on the distortion parameters yet once you dig deeper. I made a couple of versions of the fire just to show of how I use the distortion with widely different settings kzitem.info/news/bejne/qrB3yWyemoF9h3Y small sizes are great for jet flames and slow moving fire. Big Dst size settings give a very unpredictable wobble compared to the wave feature.

@@KristofDedene ok so the video, that you linked changed my mind, the distortion feature looks pretty good (i just dont know why it didnt at 1:13). but i bought the cloud shader on gumroad and i had to fiddle around with the nodegroup until i understood what settings are important, and what settings arent so much. but still im always impressed by how you come up with these shaders. i always imagine you playing around with nodes until it looks cool and i think ever since the ghibli grass tutorial, there are more people doing NPR artwork (mclelun for example with a comeback). a discord would be sick!

@@kolupsy if you use a small distortion size you have to keep the amount low/subtle, 1:13 was way too much (a bit of a booboo) :p. I compiled everything into a shader only yesterday so even I am new to this end result. I'll probably have a better grasp of it after a while. I'm still discovering new ways to abuse it. I just made this semi-realistic flame by using a soft gradient color ramp inside the shader, there is unfortunately no way to add a color ramp to the node group in blender :( kzitem.info/news/bejne/x6N6vYSAgISomII I do push a lot of nodes around and often just stumble onto stuff by accident.just experimenting can get you a long way. I've talked to Mclelun and lightning boys studio a couple of times! They inspired me to do BNPR before I started the channel, so its is a lot of fun to talk to them. I would probably not have enough time to spend on discord, for now I keep to YT, FB and twitter. I kind of had more time this summer due to Covid, so I want to push as much content out as long as things are still a bit quiet.

@@KristofDedene if you want to control a color ramp from outside the node group, you could set up drivers. That’s at least how I do it: put some input values into the node group that lead to nothing but their value controls the color ramp inside of the node group. Not as intuitive and you can’t add markers in the color ramp but it works for me. I’d like to contribute to the BNPR scene too, that’s why I think a discord would be awesome, because I don’t think most people already know about ghibli style grass in Eevee that supports shadows and hair dynamics. But I don’t do yt tutorials and on Reddit, I don’t really have a presence... but really jealous that you got to speak to mclelun and David from LBS. Ok enough simping around

@@kolupsy For the cloudshader I used the same driver setup for the color ramp. But I dread making it work for a 4-color ramp. I would rather have all of the intuitive functionality of an actual color ramp in the group node. Not making YT videos shouldn't stop you from making content tough! There is a guy called Chris Kearford making written tutorials that are great and he shares his work trough blenderartist.org/art station and twitter. And presence is something that takes time, my first grass video only got a couple of hundred views in the first month before it got picked up.
