I did a similar 5 Vengeance Paladin / 7 Light Cleric build. Imp Warding Flare, Spirit Guardians, Radiance of Dawn, Vow of Emnity, Smites, Extra Attack, massive radiant orb and reverberation debuffs, great out of combat cantrips (guidance, Thaumaturgy, light/produce flame), fireball/firewall. So many tools in the toolbox. Went traditional 6 paladin for early game survival then swapped to 5 light cleric / 2 Vengeance paladin. Then 5 / 5 then 7 / 5. 15 str (+1 Ethel, +2 potion for 18 or dump elsewhere and use strength potions) 8 Dex (Gloves of Dex for 18) 17 Con (Resilient Feat for 18 and proficiency on saving throws so you never break concentration) 8 Int 16 Wis (asi feat to 18) 8 Cha (Minthara, Shadowheart or Laezel smiling and being nice? Nope, not my ladies) All the important gear is in Act 1 / early Act 2 so you will be fully online around level 7. Blood of Lathander is excellent for all the undead in Act 2. Blinds them automatically. Holy Lance Helm, Cloak of Protection, Luminous Armor, Gloves of Dex, Boots of Stormy Clamour, Periapt of Wound Closure, Callous Glow Ring, Coruscation Ring, Bow of Awareness/Hellrider Longbow, Adamantine Shield (for reeling debuff and crit immunity) or Sentienal Shield (for initiative), choice of weapon that fits your party (blood of lathander, sacred star, deva mace, Phalar Aluve, Shar Spear, etc) You start the fights casting spiritual guardians and run into the enemy pack hitting as many as possible. 2nd turn hit them with SG again and when enough are in range cast radiance of dawn to mass AoE them without having to use your smite spell slots. Your other party members focus down archers/ranged while you decimate the melee. Any attack that hits you or misses you triggers more radiant orbs, reverberation and/or reeling. Enemy melee basically disable/kill themselves trying to hit you. For high priority targets you can max level smite twice via 2nd attack from paladin. Otherwise you can keep hitting with SG and use fireball or wall of fire if enemies position favorably for it. If you ever get hurt use a healing potion via your bonus action. The wound closure neck ensures you get the max healing amount. Thats 60 HP healed as a bonus action with a supreme healing potion...your trapped here with me!

Anything with radiating orb is peak comedy. I am currently trying tactician for the first time and somehow lvl 5 shadowheart with 19 ac, the armor that gives radiating orb and spirit guardians came so close to beating both nere's squad and elder brithvar's squad simultaniously. I tried to be clever and pushed the archer down from his high ground before talking to Nere which lead to everyone wanting to kill me at the same time for some reason. Everyone else in my party died in like 2-3 turns since the fight is generally easy and I didn't even have full hp and spell slots on them. Shadowheart however, took a grand total of 11 damage in 10 rounds of combat, never lost concentration and only reason I lost was not having another spell slot left to cast spirit guardians again. All that was left when they finally managed to kill Shadowheart was 2 duergar both below 10 hp and Nere at like 25.

great build and video as always. I am running a slight variation of this on Shart with 6 Lore Bard, 5 Paladin, 1 war cleric. Taking warden of vitality and spirit guardians from magical secrets. Planning for Sentinel & Polearm Master with Unseen Menace. Going to try and use compelled duel to proc the PAM opportunity attacks & spirit guardians. Plan to use the RO gear and buff on heal items. May change to 10 Lore Bard, 2 Paladin later for level six spells like Banishing Smite. Plan to run her and my OH Monk Lazel together - roleplaying that they are taking out their despise for each other on the enemy. Lazel will wear Bhaalist armor to increase Shart's & Astarion's damage. They should be a deadly combination. Other two party members will be Fire Sorlock halfling TAV and ranged Swords Bard Astarion. The ranged DPS-Controllers will take care of ranged/caster enemies & set up a lot of critical hits for Shart/Lazel with Hold person/monster. My TAV wil concentrate on twin haste for Astarion and Lazel. Guessing this will be a really overpowered team.

Just run a barb/EK with radiant gear + Nyrulna (or dwarven thrower if Ally nearby, possibly with disguise self from EK for extra damage). This might not be as burst heavy but you’ll have insane sustained almost resourceless damage that works better in non boss encounters since all you have to do get 8 ro stacks on any enemy in throwing distance is one nyrulna throw (which gives 4 to nearby enemies) or 4 with one non-nyrulna throw on a single target. With action surge you can get 8 stacks on 6 enemies (even more with haste/elixers) in the first round without the enemies even having to be grouped up or nearby. Action surge also sets up super well with non awakened illithid powers to group enemies then nyrulna all of them with just a throw or two. I like this build Becuase I can get 4 stacks with one throw on an enemy threatening an ally so they can get away and the opportunity attack will miss. All this ro stacking with range plus the brain dead easy dps and Orin hurling utility of a throw build.
@eddyblat

Furthermore I feel like you can repurpose this build for radiant retort fights by just throwing on some regular throw build gear no respec or character switch. Thanks very much! One thing that can help is putting smite on to use as a reaction, rather than activating it up front - that way you can see the results of the attack before deciding whether to smite or not, and know if you *really* need it. At the end of the day though paladin is just a long-rest heavy class - you can reduce it, but if you dislike long resting frequently it may just not be the class for you. there's also a mace from act 3 that does 1d4 radiant damage and gives radiating orb on a hit. it's called the sacred star and you buy it from vicar humbletoes in the stormshore tabernacle. with that mace, the gloves, chest, and ring, you'll be doing 7 turns of radiant damage instead of 6 per hit, or you give yourself a little wiggle room to trade out the gloves for something else you might want while still inflicting 5 turns per hit (so two hits to max out, or spirit guardians and one hit, or a dodge if you've got the holy lance helm and spirit guardians or a hit, etc etc you get it). you could then dip into reverberation for some fun nerfing enemies' dex/str/con saves, or use the gloves of the growling underdog to give yourself free advantage when up against more than one enemy, or craterfish gloves to add even more damage to crits, or use the dark justiciar or flawed helldusk gloves for an additional 1d4 necrotic or fire damage respectively, or gauntlets of hill giant strength so you can use an elixer of bloodlust instead and get a free ACTION which you can then use to attack another two times.

I recently tried this build on a tactician level run. I did not like it. To give it the best shot possible, I played it until well into Act 3 and LVL 12. The core mechanic of trapping enemies almost never mattered. My play style is to focus fire on single targets and take them out quickly. I would position shadowheart next to someone, but then would end up killing them. For the final battles, i switched to your light cleric build which focused on distributing radiant orbs and reverberation to multiple enemies and was much happier. Perhaps someone has a different play style and this build works for them, but it did not work for me.

And then fill up to 6 Paladin, 6 Bard ? You could swap the Charisma and Wisdom Values, get Bardic Inspiration, Song of Rest and so on. You loose some specific Cleric Spells like Guidance or in this Case the War-Domain Extra Attacks too, but get even more Value out of the Aura of Protection and Inqusitors Might. The Bonus Action in Act3 could be used instead for eg. Command (Cause Concentration would be on Sprirt Guardians or something else) with the Band of Mystic Scoundrel. @@Cephalopocalypse that is true. It comes up later. As soon you reach act3 though there are several new pretty good items you could pick up. And i needed to respec several times, when I played the Bardadin. I think both the devotee mace and smite proc orbs. You can even use the reverb boots if you want as radiating orb is a condition. This build is really insane

I'd say that 2/10 bardadin does this better. Only problem is that this doesn't come online until level 12. I also don't know if sentinel is required for this? With 10 radiating orbs, they're not doing much regardless unless they're casting spells which they can do from melee too.

I like your approach to this difficult combo. Especially the sentinel touch. I suggest putting 1 lvl sorcerer at the beginning for concentration + 5 cleric + 5 pala + 1 cleric (WIS for items)
@CMiY0
4 ай бұрын
Doesn’t work like that. Your character will still use CHA for items since it considers your last class the Paladin. You can’t dip into a class last after dipping into it already earlier for its spellcasting ability on items. If you want wis item boosts you need to do: 1Sorc->1Pal->1Cleric->xCleric->xPal

Interesting build. In addition SILENCE shoot down not only spell casting but game bosses who cry like babies calling for help. I have problem with Shadowheart she cannot hit anything, she plays more pretty role in the party and I respect her to more support role in the party mainly with area control spells. Generally I don't like melee characters on honour mode. Range attacker (archery, throw or spell with meat shields ) are more solid damage dealers and survive better when not hit at all. So this is probably more tactician or balanced mode build!? then honour? For melee I like psychic damage, noone (bar one) is immune or resistant to it.

Casting „Help“ with a character in the field is a waste of a level 2 spellslot. Better to have that casted by a camp-cleric who does not enter battle at all.

Why would they, replenishing shop supply is legit game feature. What they're trying to patch is bug that allows player to steal merchant inventory via pair of opened backpacks and other shop tricks (little success so far)

@@cannyvalley8522 “why would they” because having unlimited str elixirs is an non honorable cheese strategy that trivializes the game. HM is meant to be difficult an str elixirs are an exploit. Thanks butI was open to this until I heard Hill Giant elixirs, I like videos that at least cover both, not everybody into that weak cheesy tactic, it's like that barrel bs, if i gotta do all that to win/have fun I don't need to be playing then, however in this game you can get through any fight no matter how impossible it may seem because of the vast options & ways to overcome a fight regardless if the party you have. Seeing such a thought out game get exploited by elixirs just ruins the whole grand scheme of things but freedom to play how you want, so just like some will use it, some won't.

Don't piss off auntie Ethel too soon, she will restock 3 h. g. s. elixirs every day/level up
@CMiY0
4 ай бұрын
Merchants in this game restock if two conditions are met: long resting & level up. So here’s what you wanna do: Grab a hireling or any party member that is level one and add him to your party (or respec at Withers if you don’t have this option to get a character back to level 1). Level said character up once this will refresh Auntie Ethels inventory of 3 potions. Then keep buying them out and leveling up the character after every stock out so you get 3 potions/level up. Doing this with two characters that will level up 5x (or just one character reset back to 1 from Withers after reaching peak level) should net you like ~ 27 potions of hill giant. Ethel is by far the best merchant for this as she stocks the most amount of hill giant potions out of any vendor in the entire game (not just act 1).
@daveyfunk

There's a video where someone suggests having a '5th' party member (they use a hireling) as a Transmutation Wizard and essentially make them an alchemist as they'll craft 2 potions. You essentially leave them at camp but occasionally go back and use them to craft potions
@veryfallible
4 ай бұрын
As people pointed out, Auntie Ethel sells 3 per level up/long rest in Act 1. However, she disappears as soon as you head far enough south from the Blighted Village for her to show up with the two brothers harassing her, so you want to avoid going in that direction as much as possible. If you're mid playthrough and have already missed out on that, the easiest thing to do is to hire the Halfling Hireling. Go 1 Wizard to start her, but you want to max WISDOM, not Int. Level up and pick Transmutation as your focus. Go Rogue at your next level to get skill expertise in Medicine, then go back to Wizard in order to speed your way to 4 (and then 8) Wizard to maximize your Wisdom with ACI. After 8 Transmute/ 1 Rogue you can finish however you'd like; I generally pick up one Cleric just to get Guidance. Between Guidance, Expertise in Medicine, and 20 Wisdom, you should be able to hit the DC 15 Medicine Check to make two potions per creation really easily, and halfling means that you can almost never critically fail those rolls. Once you have your transmuter set up, use the Dwarf Lady and the Hobgoblin (both conveniently located in the Myconid Colony) for all of acts 1 and 2 to stock up on Hill Giant Fingers (and, once your face character hitz level 6, they start becoming eligible to randomly generate Cloud Giant Fingers as well.) If you just travel to Myconid Colony every time you hit a new level you can stock up on Fingers really easily just by leveling up your companions one at a time and checking the vendor inventories each time. It makes leveling up a bit tedious, but you'll be swimming in strength elixirs.

War Cleric comes online faster, but by end gsme isn't this just a worse Lore Bardadin? Swapping Lore Bard for Cleric and getting Spirit Guardians from Magical Secrets let's you do much the same build using only CHA. All you lose are the longrest War Priest charges, but you get Cutting Words to further debuff enemies into oblivion.
@Cephalopocalypse
4 ай бұрын
That build has some advantages and is also great! It has some real tradeoffs though - lower burst damage, lower accuracy thanks to the loss of the war cleric +10, coming online later (level 8 vs level 7 for guardians+smite might not seem like a lot, but means a lot more of act 2 played without the combo, which is where spirit guardians is at its absolute strongest), and having only one attack for most of the game. In exchange you get higher save DCs, cutting words, and bard utility spells instead of cleric. Can be excellent for a more defensive take on the build, but imo definitely not strictly better
@tic_tacticalgaming

@@Cephalopocalypse All fair points. It's just rough to have Spirit Guardians and all your high level spells using WIS as their spell save DC when you want to be putting points into CHA for Aura of Protection which directly helps you since it helps you pass Concentration checks on Spirit Guardians. Since you're mainly counting on Spirit Guardians to create Radiant Orb, I guess the low spell save DC won't matter so much on it. I guess this is another one those tough build choice where you can't have everything, so need to decide between better Tohit for important Smites vs better Aura of Protection and Spell Save DC...
