Personally, I put some blame in the hands of viewers for not “getting“ 500 Days of Summer. The discerning viewer understood how it was subverting common romcom tropes, in that this “manic pixie dream girl” wasn’t as into the male lead as he was into her. It was up to the audience to be able to question the idea of the woman being “the prize” for the guy instead of her own person. If misogyny is so deeply engrained in someone, they will just see a character like Summer as a jerk for not ultimately being or doing what the main male character wanted.

@@LAWoman323213oh please 😂😂😂😂😂 The idea of as an adult woman calling another adult woman while she has to go to work for a kink in your neck is INSANE. I’ve had heart procedures and friends didn’t show up. Now, those actually are deranged friends. But Carrie didn’t even realize how badly Miranda was doing. She didn’t blow her off to do nothing. She had to go to work. Miranda would NEVER blow off work for ANYTHING. Not even her own son. And I will forever harp about how misunderstood that whole issue with the apartment down payment and the e ring was. Aiden SEVERELY financially abused Carrie and basically robbed her of 30 grand. And sorry but it’s fucking true. Charlotte never had to work for ANYTHING. Grew up rich and inherited a 20 million dollar apartment so good even her successful divorce attorney second husband moved right into it. Carrie didn’t accept the money from Miranda or Samantha, both women who WORKED for it and yet offered it to her AS A LOAN so she could keep her beloved home. She didn’t even ultimately take big’s money for it even though it was nothing to him. Charlotte hadn’t even OFFERED. She hadn’t even offered a PORTION. Even though she had it just like that on her finger in her multimillion dollar apartment she paid zero dollars for. If we think Carrie, a working class daughter of a single mother, needed to ditch a meeting with her boss to go help Miranda bc her neck hurt, possibly costing her her job….. Then obviously we know damn well Charlotte, who would constantly buy 10 thousand dollar dresses, should have offered csrrie a freaking LOAN to keep her place after Aiden LEGITIMATELY ROBBED HER. Aiden robbed her! Remember?!??? He told her to keep the ring without explaining she’d need it for the down payment….. And then she GAVE IT BACK… which is already crazy bc Aiden broke up WITH HERRRRR….. when she had just asked for more time…… And he STILL charged her 30k for the down payment. The ring was 30k MINIMUM. Aiden robbed her blind!

Yes. I don't like that this video makes it seem like it was on purpose. She was rarely called out for anything...and let's accept it, that was normal back then. People were not having it later with Hanna on Girls because of the more obnoxious entitlement. If you pretend that I go through mental gimnastics to enjoy a show because your character is an adolescent and/or went through trauma, guess what? It's not a well told story and you should have used another device to make me empathize with them. UK's Ja'mie was fun in small dosis but when a whole show revolved around her with nobody calling her out it was way too much to bear. Piper was the worst part of OINTB, just as Nancy became insufferable in Weeds (by the same showrunner). Larry David, on the other hand, can be as self-centered as he wants during his show because things constantly backfire and most people are mad at him at the end of every episode and we're supposed to laugh at this. So, there's a difference in HOW you tell the story when you frame it from a flawed character's perspective.

Sexist double standards mean that women are judged much more harshly for displaying human flaws than men are, impacting how the audience perceives those characters. I also think that white women characters have the worst of both worlds from an audience perspective because liberal audiences will view the annoying white lady character as unlikeable due to her unexamined racial and class privileges, while conservative viewers will see her as unlikeable for rejecting their narrow and outdated feminine ideal.

There's no excuse for Hannah though, Lena Dunham doesn't really know how to develop character arcs. I've seen Tiny Furniture, read her book, and watched Girls a few times. @@nicolehall694 But seriously, this channel has to have multiple researchers, writers, and voice actors in order to function. And those people need a salary from somewhere!

For me Elena Gilbert was the most annoying irritating character in the tvd franchise everybody was in love with her and kept sacrificing everything in their lives to keep her alive and for the life of me I can't figure out WHY?!?!?!? It would be one thing if she was a lovable character like Tracy in "How I met your mother" saving Tracy I'd get but Elena? The girl was as selfcentered as she got, had a compulsion to make every situation someone else was going through about herself, kept making one stupid decision after another and the cherry on the cake? While everyone demonized Katherine for sleeping with both Salvatore brothers and turning them against eachother Elena does the same thing all the time and somehow she's regarded as a saint...HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN?!?!?!

Carrie’s friends enabled her bad behavior. Carrie is a spoiled child.

I think the real Piper seems much nicer than her TV counterpart, but that's just my opinion!

What's terrible about Tom? He's super charming and caring for the whole movie and only dudes and very traditional women do not get the lesson of the story. Basically 500 days of Summer swaps the male and female tropes of the girl who's convinced some guy who doesn't want to settle down is "the one".

11:34 Devi is pronounced like day-vee, not dev-ee. If you watched enough episodes to glean such insights as these, you should at least know how to pronounce her name.
