@kainpwnsu
4 жыл бұрын
@@fiercecheese1003 1. Practice. 2. Don't be embarrassed when starting out and you sound terrible. If you have the means, you can get an electric set that is much quieter. 3. Practice. The more you know your kit, the better you'll play. It's like playing scales on other instruments: know where you're going to get the sound you want an you'll play more effortlessly and Sound better. Good sticks are also important. 4. Less is more: keeping your kit simple means it's easier to set up and break down.

The guitarist in my band got on our groupchat and tried to tell me that I needed to tune my rack and floor toms because they didn't sound good together and started trying use technical terms like "legato" and I just said, "I'll look at it tomorrow at practice." As a guitarist who learned to play drums for songwriting purposes... I feel like if you're a guitarist that writes your drummers parts or at least guide structure ideas- you should at least learn to play drums yourself before taking it upon yourself to write for someone else. It would do my nut in if someone wrote me shit guitar parts and then insisted I play them

While I don't disagree with your main point per say I've found a lot of midi stuff and I mean ALOT, while you can hear maybe sounds fine because they are only playing 4 limbs and its not super fast etc - when you go to physically play it - a whole load of practical problems come up. For example people who don't play, in my experience - they overlook things like reach, hand cross over, and transfer time from one part of the kit to the other - being able to play to even some extent makes you much much more aware of it. And your expectations of other musicians are more realistic. Ofc I'm not saying you personally have to be able to play every single bar you write, but I think its important for respect of other instrumentalists as well to get the basics down before you tell someone " you have to play it like this"

"Tuning"? What's that? In all seriousness though, I had the "Someone touching your drumset" one happen two days ago. My band was one of the opening bands for Fit For A King (If you're interested in where it was at, it was at a bar called "Rock Island Live"). Since my band was up first, we had my drumset set up and we started to do soundcheck. Half way through, some drunk guy comes in and told me "Hey, hold on. Let me show you something cool." and he started to try to play George of the Jungle on my drumset...while I was still sitting at it. The sound guy, my bandmates and I were telling him "Hey, we're trying to do a soundcheck here, please leave." We eventually got him off stage, but since there were some other local bands that were also openers, he just wandered over to another drumset and started playing on the China while I was playing my kit for the soundguy. Eventually security came in and got the guy out. One of the weirdest shows I've played so far.
@Astromyxin
7 жыл бұрын
It's the worst when you're almost forced to have your kit be the backline kit for a bunch of bands. I mean, I could say no, but then I'd have to play someone else's shit and I hate that. You break it all down after the show then set it back up in the practice spot and you're like, "Wtf is this shit? Who the hell was playing this, a midget? How is it possible for someone to sit _that_ low? Ah fuck, my snare head is broken now. God damn it. What are those, coffee stains? I hate you all."
@DANTVSVERGIL

My band was lucky enough to be one of the local bands that got to open up for Lorna Shore, Bodysnatchers and (one of my favorites) Aversions Crown when they were playing in Kansas. And Aversions Crown's tour manager asked to talk to all of the drummers. So me, and the two other drummers talked to him and he asked if we could just use the first bands drumset and make any changes to it (kinda made sense, so we didn't have to waste time doing soundchecks for every drumset), the drummer before me (we were the third to play) ended up cracking a cymbal and I still got blamed for it, even though I told him I didn't do it. We played with the first band again (they're called Parthian if you're interested, super cool dudes and amazing musicians) and they found out that I didn't crack the cymbal.

Alcohol. Not even once -_- As a bassist, I had a guy do something similar to me. No idea how he got on stage with us, but we were on one of those 5-band bills where you had to get on and go. This guy wasn't in any bands. I'd just seen him talking away to a bunch of women who had the "fuck off, you loser" look. He just wanders over to me on stage and says "Dude! I like the Geddy Lee bass. Mind if I show you how to get his tone?" I already play with his fucking tone, but he was too drunk to know the difference. So, we just pushed him to the side-stage steps and got him out of there. Rule #1 for any musician: DON'T TOUCH MY SHIT!

@@justine-3667 Not everyone watching this is a drummer. I hadn't thought about them needing tuning prior to my sister getting a set. It makes sense, but I never thought about it. It's not a melodic instrument, it doesn't have what would be considered a tunable set of notes... Plus, I've met people who don't realize guitars need tuning.
