@@winterc.2476 Sometimes it's better to just not comment. We all have that option. Crutch as it relates to comedy - a topic/style/technique/whatever the comedian relies on heavily to support their actual jokes to force laughs. e.g. callbacks, doing gags on stage (falling down, humping bar stools, acting crazy), heavy profanity, or even using funny voices to make jokes funnier than they are, etc. It's essentially something the comedian is leaning on to help get laughs that isn't the actual joke. Got it? So if you say a comedian has a lot of crutches, you might be insinuating they rely on cheap tricks to force laughs instead of just their jokes being funny. Crutch as it relates to war - the device you put in you armpit that assists you in walking if you had your leg blown off or injured. Lots of people in war get leg injuries and end up on crutches. "I've seen wars that need less crutches than this". Get it now? Probably not. In the future, when everyone else finds something funny and you "don't get it", just remain silent. Calling things you don't comprehend "stupid" really makes you sound, uhhh.... stupid.

You hit on something that struck me as I watched this video. It almost felt like a "behind the scenes/making of" episode; the care John has taken in crafting his set is obvious, as are the bits that are still personal to him. I love seeing the satisfaction on his face when a joke lands just right. There were a few moments where I could see the contrast between him using autobiographical material for a bit in front of an anonymous audience, and being in a room with a few friends who are perhaps learning something new about him.

He’s like the friend of Mulaney who just met Jeselnik at Jeselniks apartment but was having a hard time not being the third wheel. Props to Tina for not just submitting and going silent.

As someone who has both seen this special close to ten times over the years and also adores Jeselnik, this is an incredible gem, thank you for posting.
