Ao's of Nagaland part 8 made by Moasunep Kichu emphasizes on religion. In Nagaland Christians form 90% of the population.
The Ao traditonal religion was heathen or paganism, which involved a lot of ceremonies and sacrifices.
The major gods were Lichaba, the god of earth; Lonkitsungba, the god of hades and Kodaktsungba, the god of space.
According to the Ao legend, the god Lichaba was the creator of everything and he was responsible for any natural calamities.
The tiger-man or tiger-woman plays a very important role in the village. It is said that he possesses supernatural powers. However, very few of them are seen today.
Dr. E W Clark an American Baptist missionary brought the Christianity to Ao region in 1871. The Christian teaching prohibited the traditional practices, which result to loose of cultural heritages.
However, today the Aos have understood the importance of culture. In every festival or occasion they perform traditional dances and sing cultural songs. Of course they start and end with a prayer.
