Bollocks to Apple. I watched a video where someone went into an Apple store and pretended they were from Samsung, and then vice-versa in a Samsung store. In the Apple store he got told "you can't film in here" and was eventually forced out. In the Samsung store everyone cheered and laughed with him. The staff joked about how shit Apple were and were very nice about the joke.

Sounds like the Apple employee needs a higher education. The Apple policy was not against selling products to anyone, including Iranians, in the U.S. It prohibits selling products, "directly or indirectly", to Iran. Only if the Apple employee had knowledge that anyone (Iranian or other), was trying to deliver the device to Iran, could they refuse a sale.

Ok, STFU. "Apple" didn't discriminate against this women. An Apple employee did. As far as I can tell he didn't do so because he was trained to do so by Apple. He didn't do so because an Apple policy directed him to do so. He did work for Apple, in and an Apple store, so assuming this happened as told, Apple owes the women an apology, and they should discipline the employee accordingly. Ultimately they are responsible for the actions of their employee while he is on the job. I personally think the appropriate discipline should be termination. If the women wants to sue, that is certainly her right. However, to turn this into a campaign against Apple for being discriminatory as a company is total bullshit; unless there is some proof that this mans discrimination was at the direction of the Company. The guy is a jerk, fire him, move on. This women wasn't hurt by this. GROW UP.

The title is click bait, APPLE didn't prohibit her from the purchase, the particular sale person did. Hence it's not APPLE's fault it the particular store that has such employee's. But hey, the title got me to click, and that's the poster's bottom line. A title doesn't have to be accurate as long as they get hits. I could blame utube, but it's not there fault, any more than it's APPLE's fault.

It sounds like maybe the guy working at the store misinterpreted the intent of export controls. If he had any concerns, he should have contacted a manager rather than trying to be his own international trade attorney. Being a US citizen or not is quite irrelevant to the situation. The policy was enacted to comply with US federal laws restricting technology transfers of certain items to specific foreign countries...generally, that they can't be sent directly over there. This is of course retarded in its own right...they're made in China, and undoubtedly if the Iranians want to get their hands on a few iPads, they can get someone to slip a few out of Foxconn and no one would notice. But they wouldn't be able to have large numbers and sell them retail...so Iranians don't generally have iPads. We've definitely won the war against giving Iranians iPads. :-/

wait hold up, I'm 100% against racism however companies are not allowed to sell some technology to countries the US has sanctions/embargoes against This includes citizens from those countries This girl was a US citizen and so exempt, but these laws exist, they are not apple policy, these are export controls

I used to work in computer sales. I did this for about 10 years. There are certain countries that the US can not sell to due to Federal laws. If you do sell to anyone who is planning to take those computers to those embargoed countries, you can go to Federal prison for it. The countries are listed at about 50 seconds into the video, I do not know if that is from Apple or the Federal government. Also the company that sells it to those people can be fined, and even denied the ability to do business in the US.The key is if the person says they are only going to use it in the US, then you can sell it to that person. If they say at some point that computer is going to be entering Iran or any of the other embargoed country then it is against the law, and the person selling it could go to jail.I had to refuse service to a man, because he was going to buy a computer for his brother who lives in Iran, I told him that it was an embargoed country and I could not sell it to him because of it. I was going to sell it to the man, until I found out about the computer going to Iran, I did not want to go to jail over it. The man then spoke to my boss, calling me a racist for not selling him the computer because he was from Iran. These laws might have changed since I was working as a salesman, that was 15 years ago, but they applied to seven countries. The ones I remember were North Korea, Iran, Cuba, and Libya at the time.

Something is fishy here. If she is a US citizen then why didn’t she simply declare as much which would most likely clear up any issue and then buy what she wanted. Sounds like it was a set up to me. Why didn’t she simply tell the store worker she’s an American? Instead she says she is from Iran but fails to say she is an American Citizen? Something is fishy with this. She damn well knows that Iran and the US are at odds all the while she says she is a US citizen yet goes at Apple to buy a product and instead of just making it clear she is a citizen, she makes it about where she is from and not where she is a citizen. Seems odd to me. Being a US citizen, she knew what is up and it sure feels like she played the system to her favor and she already has a lawyer.

They did her a favor by not selling her their products because apple is garbage.... Every time I try to give apple a chance and look into specs, and professional reviews like Louis Rosman I realize how much of garbage Apple products really are. Overpriced, but hey if you want to get ripped off feel free to keep buying Apple products.

What happened to her was terrible, but why is everyone getting so mad at Apple in general? This one guy made the dumb mistake. Why is everyone going after Apple in general and Tim Cook as if he personally went to her ,and said she couldn't have gotten the iPad? that one jerk that wouldn't let her get it she get more Spotlight in this. Apple themselves acknowledged what happened here is wrong. I agree with apple that they should train their employees better to prevent situations like this, but people should kind of lay off Apple as a whole in this situation little bit.

I’d be the CEO that isn’t even told about the incident (no reports are given to me) until I get a bunch of angry people all telling me to fix it. Like, the guy’s probably trying to revise the policy as you speak. And if apple knows what’s good for ‘em, they’ll give the girl a free iPad for the trouble she was caused.

Nothing to do with the 'CEO of Apple' it's a single employee in a single store... as they say, don't make a mountain out of a molehill. Should have just got the manager.

This is hilarious. That Apple employee doesn't understand how sanctions work. If you sell a product in a bricks and mortar store in your own city in the USA, then actually it's on someone else, not you, to prevent that sale from violating a trade embargo.

The best way is to avoid telling the employee where you are from. If you are not naturally from the US but have a US citizenship, say I am an American and I have my rights. Easy. That should make them shut up.

So sad in this time and age. That had to have hurt her and her family. Between this, and them still selling Dr Dre's " Beats" headphones, knowing his history of violence towards women, Apple needs to really check it's self.

The headlines are often misleading. May not be intentionally so but it happens often. Apple refuses to sell student and ipad is misleading. It automatically suggests this is apple's corporate policy. An employee read the policy a little too literally and that led to confusion. I don't think she was being discriminated against by anyone. It was a misunderstanding and apple should make sure their employees are more careful about these things in future

i mean the guy probably wasnt being racist just trying to follow what he thought was procedure. to many people's surprise apple doesn't actually hire smart people to work in their stores only in the actual development of their products.
