Awwww man, I didn't see that it was only the warm up. I was gonna listen to the whole game! Yes, they lost this series but you can see the formations of Showtime swirling around...with Kareem, Silk, Norman and the wonderful Don Ford, who was traded to the Cavs and eventually allowed the Lakers to win a coin flip that would result in #1 pick James Worthy. But who knew in 78 that this genesis would spawn the Dynasty that captivated the 80s. I was kinda shocked that I could ID every single player on this squad. It's actually loaded with future hall of famers already but some of them are already in their decline and way past their prime. Is that Charlie Scott, #11???? And Sweet Lou Hudson? Yes, and a very young Adrian Dantley who was soon to be traded so Jamal Wilkes could get more playing time. And look at the other youngsters who later made their mark with other teams, Brad Davis and Kenny Carr. Oh and not to forget backup center Dave Robisch who made more of a name for himself in the ABA. I liked this team! They just had to shuffle it up a bit and get a little Magic on the team, and the rest is HISTORY!

It's sort of difficult for me to believe that Pat was fighting his inner demons and his past during this era and that he wasn't always the Uber Confident Leader and Coach with Swagger and Poise..so he did have to undergo somewhat of a transformation before he exorcised those demons from his life.. so him burning the bat of his Father was a marked time machine piece in his history i guess. Lesson learned is we may have to go through this each ourselves before we finally can transform like the Phoenix out of the Ashes.

The Lakers got knocked out by Seattle this year in this First Round Series. The Seattle knocked them out again next year 4 games to 1 en route to the Supersonic winning the 1979 NBA World Championship.

And then Magic and Showtime knocked out the Sonics on the way to a dominating decade. I remember that series very well....Seattle won the first game and it suddenly looked like these upstarts weren't going to finish what they started. But they then swept the next four games and Seattle faded from view for quite a long time.

I do miss the SuperSonics as a rival as a lakers fan. What a damn mistake OKC was. The league would’ve been way better with KD staying in Seattle.

@@JeffreyOakarPhotos Yes the Lakers did get back the Sonics in 1980! What you left out when mentioning The 1980 Western Conference Finals when the Lakers knocked out the Sonics in 5 games was the fact that Kareem ate Jack Sikma for lunch in that series while Sikma was averaging 10 points a game Kareem averaged 30 points a game and 4 more rebounds per game. Not hating the Sonics, but that was why I was so hoping for the Milwaukee Bucks to beat these Sonics in their Conference Semifinal so I can see Big Bob Lanier going at it with Kareem because that would’ve been a far better matchup at The Center Position. Even though the Lakers had The Magic Man zipping passes everywhere to Open Players, seeing Kareem going toe to toe with Lanier would’ve made The Conference Finals a lot more intriguing to watch, with the Lakers winning a very tough Conference Finals. I guarantee you Kareem would have been worn down when he would face “Chocolate Thunder”(Darryl Dawkins) or Caldwell Jones in the Finals. Coming from a Los Angeles Lakers Fan

@@Jiltedin2007 that would have been intriguing for sure and Kareem has said in interviews that Lanier was one of his toughest opponents. But I'm glad it was Seattle considering they had knocked out the Lakers the past two years before. It was sweet revenge. I remember they felt that way too. By the way, I was at game 5 of the finals against Dr. J and the Sixers when Kareem sprained his ankle. That is still one of my biggest thrills sportswise.

@@JeffreyOakarPhotos The fact that The Big Guy returned to play in the 4th Quarter brought a lot of inspiration not only to the Lakers, but also to the 17,505 sitting that night at The Forum.
