Oh man, the algorithm does suck. But if you're reading this, know that you achieved victory when it comes to my viewership and patronage because of it - but not in the way one would think! I didn't get any InRangeTV video recommended to me or anything like that. What happened is that I went into the rabbithole of watching Deviant Ollam's talks a few years ago, prompted by one of his talks being recommended by the algorithm to me. I ended up writing his name into the searchbar and lo and behold, one of the hits was one of the Q&A videos you did with him! That's how I found the channel, and I've been sticking around ever since!

For what it's worth, this is the first channel that I recommend to other left-wing gun rights advocates and people on the fence. It's a real departure from a lot of the commentary out there that isn't solely about function, when you venture into that. It's absolutely stupid and counterproductive how KZitem gets all fussy about content that emphasizes responsibility.

Red Baron was the most influential game of my life. The historical books that came with it sucked me in and I've been a WWI aviation nut since. It determined my college major. I literally worked for Fokker (it still exists). I'm so grateful that they included all those reference books. Red Baron II was even better with proper bound softbacks. I love it when games provide an opportunity to learn about things you might not otherwise run across, e.g. the codex entries of Battlefield 1 hooked me and then my passion expanded to the ground and I started a WWI firearm "collection", hah.

So years back my boss told me a story about when he was the acting RO at some action pistol competition. Long story short, a competitor was using a 45 auto and the steel target was dimpled by rifle fire so much that a 230 grain slug rebounded and hit right on the schlong hard enough to break skin. He crumpled up and hit the ground so fast at first they thought he was dead.

I have the Techsight for the SKS (the elevation adjustable one). I was trying to make a “poor man’s Garand”, but in the end I should have taken all that money I spent and bought an M1 from the CMP. The sight itself gives you repeatable clicks, and for target shooting I greatly prefer the aperture over the notch sights. However... the first “complication” that I ran into with Techsights is that you need to extend the length of pull or else you’ll be whacked in the eye pro with every shot. I got a Timbersmith stock for this reason, and still needed to add a 2” spacer. Second is that now you’ll need a screwdriver to tear down your rifle for cleaning, since the bolt that attaches the sight replaced the disassembly lever. Also, the sight isn’t truly “return to zero”. It holds up well but over time it will get wobbly and you’ll have to retighten the set screws. Personally, I feel the SKS is best left alone and accepted for its shortcomings. I’ve done all I described plus bedding the stock and I still get no better than ~5moa out of the thing. I’m gonna try reloading some x39, if that doesn’t work I’ll just have a “fun gun” for shiggles, plus the bayonet looks bad ass. Lest you think Techsights as a company is a solution looking for a problem, I also have their product on my Marlin 60 and absolutely adore them. They’re pretty BA on the Ruger 10/22 as well.

Swinging steel at 600yds+ (stays static with 77gr 5.56) without .308/6.5CM weight and recoil but with quite similar bullet drop, while still allowing burning down close range targets(a deafening brake or suppressor is a must to maintain this capability) has really changed my opinion on these two AR-15 mid calibers,I want to try a super light 6.5 grendel or preferably a 6mm arc build(only if wolf starts making steel case 6mm) if I can find a high quality 16" minimum 18" preferred pencil barrel (non composite barrel) with a carbon handguard/KP15 lower, the recoil is much lower than an Ak-47's, as long as you use an obnoxious brake or a suppressor (not a fan of putting them on long pencil barrels, so not this build). I realize the lower is not intended for this, so I'm willing to risk burning some money in the name of experimentation without crying in warranty or complaints. However I refuse to spend another dollar on that case size platform until someone produces consistent quality and quantity of 24-30rd magazines! Every brand I've seen used or used personally has had problems with mags over 20rds. I know Barrett shipped the military 6mm ARC rifles with supposedly off the shelf e-lander mags, the 24's have not been 100% in my experience, so I hope that helps with thier reliability evolution. I think 6mm ARC has a big opportunity if wolf produces steel case as great as thier 6.5 grendel, and someone makes some 99% mags. 6.5 grendel is a good, but 6mm ARC in the AR-15 platform/magazine pouches really could have a great future, it's truly the intermediate intermediate caliber without a proprietary lower 👍 if anyone has newer information on magazines please let me know🙏

I saw in a video for Firearms blog, they were interviewing some developers from Sig talk about their MG68 and they mentioned that one of the requirements in the Army competition is the addition of a powered rail, Sig has a battery in the stock and they put power contacts in their 1-6 scope (with a battery backup on the scope itself). That leads me to believe that Sig will put out a powered rail for their red dots and electronic stuff one day.

(Unrelated to the Q&A but an ongoing theme) I hope you and Ian can talk to Scott @ Kentucky Ballistics, who published today about his .50 BMG rifle explosion that nearly killed him and the emergency measures he and his father took immediately and getting him to professional care. Your postmortem of Ian’s accident and injury set the stage, I think Scott had a much closer call and reinvigorating the medical training and equipment discussion seems timely.

I've built the WWSD inspired DMR in 556 and it still balances well and feels much better to use than other AR15 platform DMRs I've used, its currently in service with a local county sheriffs deputy. i plan to build a second DMR for myself in 224 Valkyrie this fall.

On the carry handle optics mount question, I think he was asking about modifying the carry handles forward portion to a rail but otherwise keeping the sights as is. Which was also done on commercially on some early match/varmint models of AR.

Fun fact: The "gooseneck" rail is still utilized by many Israeli Defense Force (IDF) brigades who still use CAR-15s and other older AR variants with the fixed receiver carry handle.

Here in Canada we have much less to work with so the SKS became the go to for many. The M1 is too expensive ($2500 +). While the FN 49 Hakim/Ljungman & Rasheed are just a little bit to rare to justify for most. As such we have AR mag well adapters up here for the SKS. Most use Robinson XCR 7.62x39 mags if they choose to go this route. I'm not in to semi-autos personally so I've never done this. As such I can't comment on the reliability of these conversions

Bone Tomahawk blew my mind. Sci fi meets western in a very interesting, innovative way. Great dialogue. Harsh movie, very gritty. All the actor's involved do an amazing job. The primary plot has lots of minor subplots and unlike most movies these days, the characters have backgrounds and personalities and some even have character arcs. True love, romance also make it interesting and different from the normal cookie-cutter, flat storylines and characters. One of the primary characters is a complete bad__s, nearly to the point of unbelievability, but true love can be a powerful motivator. Just to be clear, the brutal violence makes this a solid R-rated movie and should absolutely not be watched by children - this is very much an adult movie, but a diamond in the rough IMO. Off topic, I can't believe I watch you and Ian answer questions from channel supporters for an hour, but I keep doing it because its very interesting. You guys rock. (big hug). .

Can you go into more detail on why you chose the MDR over something like a g36, SIG 553, SCAR, ect? In the past you have said that the best rifles are the ones that have had a long development cycle based of of real world use, and you have also favored weapons that are durable and easy to perform maintenance and jam mitigation in the field. Why did you name a rifle that has cannot be disassembled without a tool, needs to have a ejection port removed do get full access to the action, and less than a decade of civilian use? I hope this response does not come off as adversarial or me disagreeing with you, however I would love know more about what put the MDR so high on your list.

I’ve got an ATN4k and love it. It’s not at all something you’d take into combat but for plinking, maybe light recon, and hunting- it’s awesome. But it’s way too heavy, bulky, and too finnicky to use under duress

Really enjoyed the answer on favorite finnish cols bewerage, more so because it was a bit unexpected. Even though it comes in liquid form and is best served cold, I have never though Salmiakki as a cold bewerage (beer, cider, etc) but as an chilled shot. I did chuckle a little because I had an metal image of Karl drinking Salmiakki as if it was long drink. It did involve torn shirts, animalistic roaring, destroyed terrace furniture and passing out :D But goid answer! And Salmiakki is good stuff (in small doses)!

I would assume that the slamfire "feature" of some early pump shotgun designs is just a quirk of the out of battery safety implementation in those guns. They just happened to use an autosear, instead of a firing pin block or whatever, I think some used both. I doubt the intent was to use it for rapid fire, and frankly doing so kinda takes a link out the safety chain in a gun that's already quite possibly worn loose enough to be hazardous to begin with.

My experience with libertarians was the opposite of your remarks regarding drug decriminalization proponents being forced not to support gun rights. I found myself being shushed and told to be less vocal about the very cause of gun rights that brought me in the door in the first place and saw people like myself baited and switched into supporting marijuana legalization which I theoretically supported but didn't care much about and realizing that if the libertarians cared as much about guns as they do about unnatural sex and using drugs, the 86 machine gun ban would have been repealed by now.
