Dang. I have AR's shoot AR's and at the age of 59 fell upon your videos. INCREDIBLY, valuable. Clear, concise information, good clarity of what your doing, great visualization, and I love how you don't fly through it so fast that a person can't see or understand what you are demonstrating/talking about. THANK YOU!!!!!

I've discovered if you have a Nickel Boron carrier, they generally don't like single piece gas rings, too little friction, the rings wouldn't seal against the anti friction coating. I had too much gas escaping past the rings and the rifle would short cycle. Switched to 3 piece rings and it worked fine.

As someone who bought JP gas rings as backups a few years ago and hasn't used them yet: solid gold. These videos are invaluable.

OK ! So my new JP Enhanced 6.5 Grendel bolt. That falls freely in and out of all three of mine bolt Carriers is OK. I saw your other video with 2 complete BCG that installed with no friction but did pass the suspension test and I freaked out so now after finding this video I guess I’m relieved😬

Okay so the test is no longer reliable on the 1-piece rings, but presumably they would last longer due to less friction with the carrier, right? Would love to see a round count lifetime estimate comparison between them.

So I stay with one carrier, one bolt. It tells me what I need to know. I don't mix and match. We are still looking for the same two tests to pass no?

Can gas rings be too tight? If so, what is the test to determine the case?

Hi ! Just installed BCM extractor spring kit. It made bolt hard to get in the carrier. Had to tap with a plastic hammer. So doing this test would t seem to work as it seems that bigger spring makes the bolt stick in or out of the carrier. This seem normal ? I noticed the new spring much bigger than the new copper colored one I just took out that had problems

I'm at 2:16, do you have it backwards with the 1 and 3 piece rings? Maybe they just all look the same. But typically how many rounds must one shoot before the rings go bad?

should the gas rings fit tight? or should have a little play when applied?

Why test the rings with the full weight of the carrier? Shouldn't the bolt itself (with the cam pin removed) be enough to test the gas rings? Per the TM 9-1005-319-23&P. 4. Check bolt assembly (5) for proper fit with bolt cam pin removed. Turn key and bolt carrier assembly (6) and suspend so the bolt assembly is pointed down. NOTE: The bolt assembly must not drop out. If weight of bolt assembly allows it to drop out of key and bolt carrier assembly, replace bolt rings (p 3-21).

Hey quick question my rings are spinning is that normal ?? Is it supposed to stay still ?
@ryanpeck3377
2 жыл бұрын
That’s completely normal. After firing and during loading the bolt is rotating inside the carrier, the gas rings will have more tension on the carrier so they wont rotate exactly the same speed or amount as the bolt.

Do the gas rings have to be lubricated? (A lot or a little?)
