The older model of Mantis is Arc'teryx Brize. I have the 32L version. I hated it initially but slowly I adapted to it avoiding some pain points. Never store anything even remotely heavy in the top section as it makes the backpack so uncomfortable. But that is the case with any backpack. I only store light items like gloves, medicine bag, and light snacks. But leave it mostly 70% empty. Rest all it is so good as the pack is so much lighter than comparable sizes made by Osprey and Gregory.

Great video! Now I know one bag I'll never need to consider buying.

It's amazing to see that several years ago Arc'teryx already had a backpack model that was designed with the very same features but with a much better execution: the Brize 32 backpack. Comparing the two packs makes you wonder if Arc'teryx completely forgot that they already had the blueprints of a fine backpack, or if they wanted to produce it in a much cheaper way to get a higher profit. If I didn't know this model was legitimately by Arc'teryx, I would have taken it for a knock off.

I would love a review of the Mantis 26.

I've owned the previous Mantis 26 and considered the new one when it came out this spring but the thinner straps compared to the older design are definitely less comfortable when the bag is loaded and being used for things such as hiking/cycling. wish/hope they go back to the old strap design/padding.

Amazing how poorly designed this bag is. I have the 16 and 26L versions and they're both excellent. How did they mess up so bad on this 30?

It feels like a muddled bag, trying to be two things rather than one. There are much better options for a daypack/UL overnight pack and for regular use. Maybe that’s why I stick with aer for my “normie” packs and Durston or Hyperlite for my hiking/backpacking needs. There’s nothing wrong with being really good at one thing. And I feel like waaaaay too many companies have forgotten that. I don’t need a bag that’s a duffel/backpack/crossbody. For the love of god, please stop.
