I had known about Arcturus for years but, before making this video, I had never seriously played it. However, I started thinking about the game again while making my Falcom video last year. I knew there were rumors in Korea that Arcturus had inspired elements of Falcom's now famous Trails series, so I thought it would be fun to finally play the game myself and make a short video about it. However, finding a copy of Arcturus online, getting it to run on my computer and capturing footage of the title ended up being more complicated than I initially thought it would be. It took me way longer to make this video due to all the technical problems I ran into and because I wanted to play through the whole game before publishing the video. But I’m glad I did it. Arcturus turned out to be a pretty interesting game and the extra time allowed me to do more research which hopefully made the video better in the long run. I’m not an expert on South Korea’s game history nor do I understand the Korean language so please correct me if I got anything wrong.
If you would like to play Arcturus in English, there is a translation patch available online that was designed to work with the Japanese DVD version of the game released by Falcom. The patch was made in 2017 by a user named Helly and can be found here: www.romhacking.net/forum/inde...
Keep in mind that the patch was never completely finished so there are typos in the script and some text is left untranslated. Plus the game has a lot of problems running on modern computers and will crash in certain places, such as when you attack any of the mermaid enemies after the first act. So be aware of that if you want to play the game yourself.
