It’s easy to use and has some features that are really handy such as the session timer and the dual output.
I’m sure the dot box feature would come in handy if you are a coil user.
As a rotary user it makes no difference for me.
It’s easy to wrap and the magnets are handy for sticking to the side of my workstation.
The voltage accuracy of the power supply isn’t 100% accurate.
10 volts is more like 10.3 or 10.4
And the power unit is quit large and bulky in comparison to some of the other power supply’s that are on the market today.
When using the power supply I tested it against the Cheyenne pu4 and the critical atom.
I found there was a significant difference when using the Cheyenne unio with the aurora 3 compared to the pu4.
When using the aurora 3 I really felt like the machines I used didn’t have that much poke to them.
It was like the motors were running half empty if that makes sense?
I noticed less control over my shading and more irritation being caused to the skin when tattooing with the aurora 3 in comparison to some of the leading brands.
The performance of the power unit is certainly reflected in the low price.
Incidentally you can actually find it cheaper if you go direct to the manufacturer on Ali express.
So is this a “professional” piece of equipment?
I would have to say.
NO…
The aroura 3 is a cheap mass produced supply aimed at people that are either just getting into the industry and don’t know what a good power supply is. Or people that just think there’s no difference between a cheap supply and a better produced supply, when there blatantly is a massive difference.
Maybe you could use it to practice on fake skin but I wouldn’t recommend using this if you are using professional tattoo equipment or tattooing people.
So you are probably wondering why I’m advising against using this.
We had a client in recently who is an electrical engineer.
He confirmed for me that using a power supply unit that isn’t providing consistent and clean power can cause long term damage to your motors and shorten the lifespan of them.
The power unit that comes with this machine in his professional opinion is cheap and he recommended against using it for safety reasons.
He pointed something out which I was totally unaware of and that was the CE mark.
A, CE mark is
a symbol applied to products to indicate that they conform with relevant EU directives regarding health and safety or environmental protection.
But… I was unaware that there are two different CE marks.
The second mark means “China export” this is slightly different but at a glance you would think it’s the standard one.
Which i think is very misleading for potential consumers.
The power unit with the aurora has the China export stamp.
After comparing with some of my other power units I have to say, it does feel very cheap and poorly made..
So with that in mind I messaged the guys at dragon art to see if they had CE certification, they were happy to provide me with one.
Here it is on screen.
Now the only real issue I have is the ce certificates are all “self certified” so you kinda have to take their word for it.
But the stamp on the power unit is clearly different to the correct CE stamp.
With that in mind I personally cannot recommend purchasing this power supply unit.
Not only does it underperform in comparison to some of the industry leaders, but it could damage your motors and there is the added risk of the power supply unit catching fire.
Other than that i would stay clear from this, save some extra bucks and purchase a power supply from a reputable company that has the correct CE stamps.
