I just had a scheduled c-section three weeks ago (at 37 weeks) due to placenta previa. Like you, it was my first pregnancy. We hoped and prayed it would move, but unfortunately, the placenta didn’t budge at all throughout my pregnancy. Praying that your experience is different! However, if you do end up with a c-section, I hope yours goes as smoothly as mine did. I had no nausea or vomiting, no hemorrhaging, a healthy little boy, a wonderful care team at the hospital, and a swift recovery. It was not what I had originally envisioned, but it really was a positive experience! I was very fortunate to not have bleeding or any other complications during my pregnancy - no signs or symptoms that would alert me that something wasn’t right. I’m thankful that ultrasounds exist and are the standard of care, as I wouldn’t have known about the previa without it. I feel so uneasy about the growing trend of refusing ultrasounds in pregnancy, as that could have lead to a really devastating outcome for baby and me. Blessings to the three of you 🙏🏻

Congrats you two, seeing baby at that mid-point ultrasound is so special. ❤ I had an emergency c-section, which I really really didn't want. In the end, though, I realized the only way to look at it was positively, because if what had happened to me (I had a placenta abruption) did at pretty much any other point in human history other than the last 80 years, baby and I likely both wouldn't have made it. It's hard to be too upset about having a c-section when we have the amazing gift of modern medicine. All the best to you two, and definitely hoping the situation resolves so you can have the birth you're hoping for!

I had placenta previa with my first birth (also a boy), I hate telling my birth story to new parents, so I'll keep it brief. I was put on modified bedrest and pelvic rest, instead of getting better I was also told I have vasa previa. I ended up being almost the absolute worst-case scenario, but me and my son are fine now. I had a weird peace through the whole thing. God played a huge hand in my son's birth as well, I tried for weeks to be seen an OBGYN, or a midwife, anyone but kept running into problems. Finally, I found my doctor, she is a high-risk OBGYN, who leans heavily towards holistic and alternative medicine. She was there for my VBAC and is going to be there when I try again this August.

I have always been on the more natural side when it came to birth. So when I had my first daughter, I was excited to try to go the more natural route, and then we found out that she was breach. We did everything we could to get her to flip, but my sweet stubborn girl was not having any of it. So we had to have a C-section. Emotionally it was really hard to get past because I was so set on the natural birth. And it certainly wasn’t easy but man I am grateful that C-sections exist. That’s exactly what they’re for, is to get desirable results from an otherwise riskier situation. I would never say c-section is the more desirable route averagely, but when it’s necessary it truly is a gift. Just two years later I had a beautiful VBAC. C-section doesn’t have to limit your future birthing options. I hope that will bring you comfort if the situation should arise that you must have a cesarean.

So well said! It is emotional to hear you have to have a C-section when you really wanted to go the natural route! 😥 I'm pretty sure I bawled both times but at the same time accepted it. Having more time to process it may have helped. I also went on to have three VBACs, though I did have to push to make sure I had doctors supporting me in that. Many think once you have one C-section, you can only have them from then on, but that's not always true.

Being around birthing moms snd lots of friends who had kids and hearing so many birth stories, I learned that c-sections are not a big deal a all and you should always be ready for it just in case. It's great to have your dream home birth, but even if it doesn't happen as you planned, it will still be ok and your baby will be great! I had the perfect position, I went beyond term by a few days and I was told I would have a perfect natural birth. Then out of no where my baby stopped moving and I went to get checked to have an emergency c-section, which saved my baby's life. I'm grateful and looking back, I was way too attached to my own plans and views of birth, which lead to a lot of disappointment and guilt... Don't do that.

I had no idea frequent ultrasounds were linked with poor health outcomes. When I was pregnant they called us in every month for an ultrasound and encouraged us to drop for additional ultrasounds in whenever we wanted to see how the baby was doing. (Ultrasounds were free) Now thinking of having a second child, I know better what to expect from pregnancy, and don’t see the point of all the extra trips to the clinic. I would like to see some documentation of what they think causes the negative side effects.

My first baby had her organs out of her body, so, for her sake, I had to have a c/s. I hope this advice is entirely unnecessary because the placenta moves, but a c/s is no big deal IF you get up and start taking steps pretty much right after you get moved to your room. For 3/4 of my c/s's, I was able to get up right away and recovery was a breeze. I honestly had to be told to take it easy despite only taking motrin for about 8 days (and only because I was told it helps the uterus not swell up post-surgery and cause issues next pregnancy). With my 3rd one, born April of 2020 for context, I wasn't allowed to leave the room and no nurses helped to get me moving and that c/s was awful. A month later, I was still on pain meds and thought I'd never recover. Early walking is the key to c/s's being "no big deal" as it were. I hope you don't need that advice, but, since it seems counterintuitive to recovering after surgery, I wanted to share it just in case. Congrats on the baby boy!

Interesting anecdote - In the 1600s and 1700s there was a Dutch midwife who attended 10 cases of placenta previa during her career and I believe only had two losses. Obviously C-section is the much safer option now, but it’s remarkable that she was able to save most of her patients, without modern medicine, prenatal diagnosis of the condition, or a very through understanding of human anatomy. I hope your previa resolves and you can have a vaginal birth! But it’s good that you seem to be at peace with whichever way it goes. 💜

Hi guys! Congratulations on expecting! Really hoping you read this comment and derive benefit from it. I have studied nutrition for years and as I am sure you know, nutrition is a powerful thing. I know of women who had the placenta in the wrong place, and by taking certain vitamins and minerals, got the placenta to move up. So I just wanted to share with you what those are. Of course, if you choose to take these, do your research and make sure they are taken in appropriate amounts for pregnancy. They are Methylfolate, Choline, Vitamin C and Copper. Again, praying you read this and that it is helpful to you!
@sarataylorhealth
4 ай бұрын
I’ve also studies nutrition for years and I’m actually certified! These are great tips but I wouldn’t recommend supplementing copper without testing. I actually tend to run copper toxic so it’s not something I should personally supplement with. I have taken methylfolate for years! Unfortunately with planta previa, it’s a myth that nutrition can help. It’s not a nutrition issue. The placenta itself is perfectly healthy, just in the wrong place! And the placenta doesn’t actually move itself at all. It’s attached to the uterus so the only way it can move is with the expansion of the uterus so it’s all about how and where it’s attached that dictates if it’s able to move or not. For example, if it’s attached to a non-moving part like the cervix, it can’t move.

I planned for a natural birth my first one and it ended with a csection because of baby's size and position. We made that decision before it became an emergency, and my surgeon did such a good job and my recovery was so good all things considered. I have had 3 natural births since then (2 at the birth center) and planning for a home birth for my 5th baby currently. I've been on the fence about 20 week ultrasound this time and I am leaning toward getting one, especially after your story. Congrats and continued prayers for you three! My story: Due to a disagreement with my doctor (that's a whole other story), I was without medical care other than my midwife for the last month of my pregnancy. My labor didn't go well and my midwife decided it was time to go to the hospital in the middle of the night. That decision saved our lives. My problem was the baby's head was not fitting through my pelvis, so every contraction crashed her head into my pelvis which was excruciatingly painful for me and I can't imagine how it felt for her. I ended up with an emergency c-section AFTER I was given an episiotomy. The recovery was rough, and the worst part was the hospital sent me home after 2 days but kept our baby for another 3 days, so breastfeeding got off to a terrible start, and I was an emotional mess being separated from her. I was in way too much pain to make the trip to see her. Two years later I had a hernia repair. A year after that I had surgery for endometrioma. Thankfully that was successful. It was a rough time in our lives but like someone else said, 80 years ago our daughter and I would have died in childbirth. We never had more kids but our daughter is almost 21 and at university. Both her and I are healthy and happy! I am so grateful to God for His watch care over us every step of the way, and for the medical system for being an integral part in our survival! And to our midwife for making the right decision in the middle of the night during my long labor.

Interesting about the early miscarriages with ultrasounds. I had early ultrasounds with all three of my boys and they all came out without any issues. Congratulations on having a boy. Boys are such great fun!!! Warning you that this next paragraph is a bit sad: The placenta pereia issue. . .I know a few people who have had issues on placement of placentas. . most all of the people I have known who have had the issue were okay and had good births. I only know of one bad situation. I had a best friend who died after her seventh child was born because she had placenta pereia and then gave her an emergency hysterectomy (which really she shouldn't have done) and a few days later she died of heart failure from that craziness (which was 3 years ago come next month). Her placenta pereia was not an issue though. They fixed that right away, it was the fact that she JUST gave birth, then they performed that surgery, and then sent her home too quickly (in two days) without allowing her to heal better (or the fact that she was the type who didn't like to stay down so maybe also partly because she was a go-getter). The placenta CAN MOVE in the last twenty weeks. You have many people praying for you.

Yes! I think it’s a boy or a girl!…We did a test at 10-12 weeks that showed it was a boy, later we suspected something was up so we did a ultrasound at 20 weeks and discovered we were having 2 boys! Thus ruining our plans for a home birth for a second time and ultimately ending in a regular hospital birth followed by a C-Section. The midwife thought maybe the doctor may have caused the c-section by immediately breaking baby #2’s water after the 1st birth. So yeah that was fun! Excited for you guys! Hope it turns out great for you guys! Even if you have to go to the hospital, God has his own plan sometimes and we are grateful for our family even though we would have never chosen to have twins! Good luck with it possibly moving! I was forced to have a cesarean with my first child, but I had an amazing midwife with my second, who specialized in VBACs and it ended up being a great natural birth! Even if it ends up being a planned cesarean, you can do this, you'll be amazing. It sucks, but at least it should be easier than the previous recovery. So much love to the three of you!

I was sad to have to go through 2 C-sections of my 5 births. You're right that the recovery is rough, but of course I'm thankful for my healthy babies. What a wonderful time we are in to allow us to get the help we need! But good for you to make all the plans for all the possibilities. You never know! Hoping the best for you all!

I dealt with that but mine wasn’t complete and it resolved. The good news is you get watched by high risk specialists who keep a very close eye on things. That helps with first time anxiety - knowing things are okay every step of the way. Sounds like God is watching out for you guys and helping you each step of the way. The antidote for fear is faith. You two lean on God like you know to do! Bless you and your baby! (I have a boy, too- mama it’s a special thing - you’ll love being a boy mom!) you’ll be okay. This two will just be part of the story that you tell him one day. ❤

I had a C-section and I went through a long labor with no pain meds beforehand as well. Both ways of birth are definitely hardcore! Take care of yourselves and keep praying! 💙

Firstly, congrats on having a boy! Second, I can understand not want and early transvaginal ultrasound, but I am curious as to your initial preference of having as few ultrasounds as possible and to not wanting to birth at a hospital. No judgement at all; I’m just curious.
