I’m so tired of decorating shows where everything looks the same. You can’t tell one designer from another. A home is made up of our collections, our pictures and what is valuable to each of us. I am a great grandma so I’ll wear the handle proudly. Don’t care if I look grandma it’s as it should be. Our homes are filled with love.

Hi Joe 👋! My goodness I found myself rolling my eyes to a lot of these things. I have always been a true believer that one should decorate with what brings them joy and makes them happy to look at. Oh this definitely struck a nerve with me lol!! Personally I think a lot of these so called “professionals” have horrible taste!! I can’t understand for the life of me how they even have a show or a magazine!! I wouldn’t put that mess they show in my house if they gave it to me for free!! I say to each their own!! If you like it, buy it, if you have it & like it, keep it!! I’m so tired of people that call themselves “professionals” telling the rest of the us how we should live..what we should wear, what we should eat & how we should decorate our own home!! And then try to shame us if we don’t agree with them!! Really!! Just bc they like it doesn’t mean everyone has to like it or do it!! I do like some of the new ideas & I have changed some of my decorating styles in the past year or two bc I WANTED to change it, but not bc some “professional” says that I should!! Decorating is an individual preference & opinion, and like bellybutton’s, everyone has one!! Btw, I am a grandma and very proud of it, I wear that title with pride🤗!! Thanks for sharing!! Well, Interesting to say the least. I am guilty of Precious Moments Christmas ornaments. At a Christmas gift exchange the first year that I taught ,a fellow teacher gave me my first ornament, a little boy holding a slate saying Merry Christmas. I loved it. Thus began a yearly tradition I received a Precious ornament every year. So I now put up white Precious Moments Christmas tree in my Library/office/ and each year unbox and hang each one and remember fellow teachers, student,, librarian, secretaries, etc. (Names are on boxes). So, Yes I am guilty of Granny Chic. Dollies I have in a box, because i can vaguely remembering grandmother making and having them at her home. just a part of childhood I don't wish to give up.

Hey, Joe! Watching this I am just gazing and I am mesmerized at how you transform that gorgeous home for the holidays. The house is beautifully and tastefully done right now as it always is, but compared to how you bedazzle it for the holidays, right now it also looks like a blank slate! So crazy. You amaze me all the time and you know I love watching your channel and staying in touch. I have crocheted doilies here and there. They were made by my mom and anyone who doesn't like it can kiss my, well, you know what I mean. The problem with professional decorators is that they are always looking for ways to be innovative and my opinion is that a home should be reflective of the owners' personalities and what they like. There are ways to do that while also keeping things up to date and refreshing. Personally, I love mixing old with new. Great seeing you! Love to Mary Ann!! Xoxoxo

Bonjour my friend. so glad to see you here this morning. On the subject, I find that so many designers are pushing for black, white, beige and BRANCHES - LOL. No more flowers, of course, those are not suitable for a home, it has to be branches LOL. Frankly, I dont care much about what they are saying, especially those on You Tube as they (most of them) have become "associates " and they push a brand and they get paid to do so ! Anyway, In my home I decorate to please myself and to feel happy. That to me is the most important thing. Continue your wonderful work - even if some designers dont understand that making/creating decor for special occasions is not something that is there to stay for an entire year !! Finally, if we all listen to those "decorator/designers" we would change our furniture every 2 years LOL" - crazy. That being said, It is a pleasure to you see you again, take good care and please send my best to MaryAnn. Happy rest of the summer, my friends. - Rosalind -

I've heard well respected decorators comment on how upsetting it is to have some paint beautiful wood furniture white, then "chippy" it. I fall in with the those decorators. Traditional, well made furniture has a place in the homes of those who truly appreciate the craftsmanship that exists in such pieces. And, long ago I framed a piece of tatting done by a woman in her 90's. A lost art form I truly admire. Best not to "diss" all things of yesteryear. To each his own!

It's Estelle, locked out of my u-tube account for the moment. I was just thinking about all the young ppl who love outdoor rusty junk. I would have never thought in the 21 century that young woman would want my great grandmother's stuff. My 32 yr. old daughter asked if I had a old chippy window. I did get rid of all my oak furniture, but I do have a few plates hanging on on my wall. Cherry wood is straight from the founding of our country , very Colonial and classic, not, grandma. Very interesting, I did enjoy this very much.

KZitem is full of young people that are scouring the thrift and antique stores and rescuing a lot of the items that were mentioned in this list. I don’t consider myself young at 43 but I have a whole channel dedicated to decorating my home with vintage items. The thing that I say over and over on my channel are use the items to decorate your home that bring you joy. A lot of the items I decorate with remind me of a simpler time and make me smile. Truth be told, knowing all the "rules" and then breaking most of them brings me great satisfaction;) Old-old-old stuff (of value, that is) is actually a caste mark and throwing out is not only wasteful and un-Green, it is expensive, as you said! How about decorating with old pieces, memorabilia, functional items, things that bring joy/carry sentiment--and mixing all that with a new, trendy wall cover/lighting/accent piece? Confession: I have doilies on my end tables! Horrors! (My mother-in-law and aunt--both now deceased--crocheted them and I'll be damned if I don't keep them in full view!!

Hi Joe! Found this very informative and in some cases funny. No-brainer not to have plastic slipcovers, silk flowers, and even the farmhouse look. I think it’s funny when people live in the city and you walk in their apartment and they’re trying to make it look like you’re in a barn. But if you have a piece like a mirror or something that means a lot to you because it’s a family possession by all means that should be in your house. That’s what I think anyway. Good morning Joe Well I have a antique hutch , right when you walk in my living room . I was born in the 60’s I remember my mom had plastic furniture in her sofa and loveseat in the summertime it was so hard to sit on plastic specially the heat in Chicago, . My mom always had fake flowers it made the house look very beautiful but you are right they collect dust . Joe also my mom had it was really big in the 80s it looked like a long big beach towel but it wasn’t you hang on the wall and they had a very beautiful design, like praying hands or it had the face of Jesus . Also in my mom‘s bedroom everything had to match the bedsheet, the covers , the curtains, the rugs ,and the pillows thank you for sharing this video please do more videos. Yes I agree with you 100% I think a young kid wrote that article they should go back to decorating school and stay there. I guess I'm grandma chic and I love it and proud of it. Hope you have a blessed day love to watch your videos.❤

Joe, greatly informative. Interesting. Guilty of 5! Could agree to change 2 but maybe not. 😬 Thank you for sharing this.

I have never gone full on into trends in decorating. I have taken bits and pieces that I like from a trend and did my own version. I have so many things that hold wonderful memories of those who passed on and having them scattered tastefully throughout my home brings me joy. The objective with trend decorating is to pretty much erase all of your personal history leaving your home void of who you are and that of your children and ancestors. Actual beautiful artwork is replaced by modern unrecognizable abstract nonsense. Period European pieces are now deemed granny is absolutely ridiculous. Yup I am a boomer and seen trends come and go but I will stick with what I love and my home will reflect myself and my family.

Well, I guess I’m guilty….I do have silk flowers around because I Kill plants….I even managed to kill a snake plant!!! The new generation is use to everything “disposable”…even our cars are leased! I’m ok… I’ll live in my own world of decorating, love my house, it’s me!♥️♥️🌹

Except for the plastic covers, everything you mentioned are picked up at goodwill and sold for hundred of dollars by resellers to people who loves these items. So, so much for grandma.

This is hilarious! I agree with half and am totally guilty of the other, most granny half. When someone else decides they want to pay my mortgage they can then criticize my decor. Doesn't mean I'll change anything. They will just be wasting time and energy.

It sounds like whoever wrote this article is dull and boring and doesn’t like anything, even a little bitter. Decorate your house and whatever makes you happy.

I decorate for me. Always have. Always will. I'm not about to get rid of things that hold memories just to suit someone else. Having said that, sometimes people take it too far.

I don't care what 'they' say. Do what makes you happy! As far as fake flowers go, they are all silk now, not plastic! And they make gorgeous ones. "They" can stick it where the sun don't shine. 😄

I think the writer of the article had fun with “Granny Chic” decor. Clean Open and airy is always in style. If it involves a few cat statues and faux flowers then it’s all okay. 😎👵

I think I have everything they mentioned. I collect Annalee elves, I love floral arrangements without pollen, dust ruffles keep the area under your bed from becoming dust bunny hospice, and I’m currently looking for doilies (have some needlepoint but always on the lookout) I also love plate walls. I don’t really care what these little miserable twits think. And sleeping without a top sheet is nasty unless you want to wash your comforter every week, which I just about guarantee most of them don’t. They’re mostly just mad and bitter because most of us own our own homes and they aren’t able to afford one.
