Gosh, what a beautiful arrangement, I had no idea Aretha sang ballads, she's as good as Billy Eckstine.

ever I would leave you, it wouldn't be in summer Seeing you in summer, I never would go Your hair streaked with sunlight, your arms red as flame Your face with a luster that puts gold to shame And if I'd ever leave you, it couldn't be in autumn Just how I'd leave in autumn, I never, never would know I've seen how you sparkle when fall nips the air I know you in autumn and I must be there Oh would I leave you running merrily, merrily, merrily through the snow? Or on a wintry evening when you catch the fire's glow? If ever I would leave you, it wouldn't be in springtime Knowing how in springtime I'm bewitched, bewitched, bewitched by you so Oh, no, not in springtime, summer, winter, or fall If ever I would leave, leave you at all

I have loved Aretha's rendition of this song ever since I first heard it a several decades ago. This song was written by Lerner and Loewe for their Broadway musical "Camelot" based on the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. In the original Broadway production, this song was sung by Sir Lancelot played by Robert Goulet about Guenevere played by Julie Andrews. Here is a link to a video of Robert Goulet giving a wonderful performance of this song as Sir Lancelot: kzitem.info/news/bejne/2YJrmJx7eqSEmYI

@joelsacks210

It's from when she was signed to Columbia or Capital Records in 1963. Check Wikipedia is my advice. Can't answer your question, but here's part of the story. She was "discovered" by John Hammond Sr. and signed to Columbia Records who had no idea what they had or what to do it. Eventually she got out of the contract and met the Ertegun Brothers and Jerry Wexler. All they asked her to do was be natural, so she went over to the piano and sang. John Hammond, btw, also signed Billy Holliday.
