I can't believe it ...I heard this song ONCE in the early 70's on a radio station but got no name or details about it - er, ah.. I was slightly drunk ..but never forgot it. Looked for it a zillion times over the years without success but now 45+ years later...here it is! My life is fulfilled.

This was a Grammy winning top 10 US Billboard Hot 100 hit in 1964. It was covered in 1975 by Kiki Dee. Nancy Wilson was one of the best loved jazz vocalists of the 60s and 70s who recorded on Capitol Records. She recorded over 60 albums before her death in 2018. Another big hit US Top 10 hit was Face it Girl, It's Over which was featured in a Tom Cruise movie. She was known for her sultry laid back style and recorded many excellent covers of contemporary hits as well as original material. Check out more clips on You Tube and check out some of her albums- she had such a unique distinctive singing style.

I knew one woman when I was a teenager that was a world class whistler! She was my best friend's mom and she used to put on a John Phillip Sousa record and whistle all the piccolo parts ... while vacuuming! She turned the music loud enough to be heard over the vacuum, then she'd start the vacuum and started whistling along and her whistle soared over the music and the vacuum! Since I can't whistle to save my life, I was duly impressed. My friend just shrugged her shoulders and said, "That? My mom always does that when she vacuums."

Nancy Wilson was an unknown talent to me when this song was receiving airplay. Listening to her inventive tempo , the stop and start again style and the distinctive jerkiness of her phrasing is the mark of a expert singer. This is when song stylists studied their craft. Raw talent needs to be honed and formed. Not just makeup, hair and dancers. Smoke and mirrors. She was one of the few last to start singing in nightclubs and on the shoulders of other greats, Sarah, carmine and Dinah. You had to prove you belonged and could hang. Nancy was able to hold her own. These girls today need to do their homework. Many are smoke and mirrors and we are at fault for not demanding more. We are being sold short and they are being cheated.

Nancy Sue Wilson (February 20, 1937 - December 13, 2018) was an American singer whose career spanned over five decades, from the mid-1950s until her retirement in the early 2010s. She was especially notable for her single "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am" and her version of the standard "Guess Who I Saw Today". Wilson recorded more than 70 albums and won three Grammy Awards for her work. During her performing career, Wilson was labeled a singer of blues, jazz, R&B, pop, and soul; a "consummate actress"; and "the complete entertainer". The title she preferred, however, was "song stylist".[1] She received many nicknames including "Sweet Nancy", "The Baby", "Fancy Miss Nancy" and "The Girl With the Honey-Coated Voice".[2]

Wow. This song is glorious. Nancy Wilson's voice and delivery ... I'm spellbound. Also loving the camera work and editing. It's intimate and captures Nancy's expressions so perfectly.

I first heard this in the early sixties. My big brother had the album and I was looking through his things and played the album and was totally hooked. I was ten at the time but I never forgot it, sadly I lost my brother to liver cancer but I play this song to remember how glad I was to have him in my life. Miss you Mel and still think of you often.

Nancy and her family lived in my neighborhood (in Ohio) she was every bit of class and so respectful even before the big times. She was my siblings age and her younger sister was my age and we'd hang out on their porch while her sister imitated her singing "Face it Girl". Great memories, thanks for the post.
