Leaving Yarram and heading south, I'm early for the Wilson's Promontory check-in so I detour and explore Port Welshpool and it historic Long Jetty. The Long Jetty is curved to accommodate the deep channel and is lovely walk along it 870 meter deck.
After a fun hour, I continue to the very south of mainland Australia and enter Wilson's Promontory. From the entrance gate to Tidal River campground is another 30km along a windy road with lots of wildlife.
All settled in 22nd Avenue, I explore Norman Beach, Tidal River itself, boardwalks and bush scrub before coming out on the northern end of the campground and walking back to my site.
On the way back to my Signature Iridium 13s, I meet a little wombat who decides he will follow me through the campground. Such a cute wombat with heaps of personality, I get plenty of photos before he heads off for greener grass.
What a great start to an epic location that I've been planning to visit for years.
