This mute is amazing. I use this on my cello. Thought I’d mention there are two screws on the mute. You can use these screws to adjust the fit of the mute so it’s great for different size & thickness bridges. Hope this may be of help to someone. Great video thank you.

That’s good to know about the screws! I think that will help a lot of instrumentalists. Thank you!

Thank for this video. One of the reasons I stopped my lessons was because I live in a seniors apartment. They sometimes get 'crusty' when they can hear sounds from other apartments.

Thank you for this video!, I'm starting violin now and I don't want to bother my neighbors with my beginner noises, haha, but once a week I want to practice without the mute to not get too used to since I'm still a beginner I'm always afraid to practice without mute because it's too loud and I live in an apartment, but now I can practice every day longer than before and this is amazing to help build confidence and learn more!

I've seen good comments about this product as well. One thing I'm concerned is whether the presence of the mute would hinder my bow movement/handling. What is your thought on this matter?

Hi there! That's a good question. In some way you're limited if you're wanting to practice closer to the bridge. If you're doing an up bow on and your frog/bow hand is approaching the mute, you won't be able to go as close as you would if you were playing without the mute. Movement would be the same and holding the bow would be the same. You wouldn't use full bows because of the mute. At least in my experience.

Thanks for the review. I just got this mute yesterday, and I think it was a good choice. I'm a beginner in the violin who lives in an apartment complex, but would you recommend a beginner practice with a mute? I'm worried about not being able to train my ear if I only kept practicing with a mute on, but I'm also scared of annoying my neighbors. I live in Tokyo where noise pollution in apartments can be a big deal.

Hi there! Ideally, practicing without the mute is the best option. The practice mute provides only a temporary solution to decrease the sound. Working on tone and developing your ear is important for beginners. When living in an apartment complex with not so much sound proofing, I would talk to the neighbors and see what hours you can practice. I’m sure they won’t mind beautiful violin sounds 😊

@@erictheviolinist Thanks! I figured as much. Maybe I can start using it when I get better and need to practice in dire circumstances, but it'll be a long wait. At least I already have the mute for keeps. :)

Hi there! You should be able to put the mute on the bridge regardless either way.

Practicing excessively with the mute deteriorates technique, because it muffles your mistakes and makes you less aware natural tone. Is this true?

Yes, you don’t want to practice with the mute all the time.
