9/11/19 There is a growing number of next generation scientists who understand that science that depends on the exploitation of people's lands, cultures and self-determination will soon be a thing of the past.
Back in July, hundreds of astromers, most of whom were from institutions that would directly benefit from a new telescope on Mauna Kea, denounced the arrests and questioned the methods by which the TMT corporation was getting the telescope on the mountain in the first place.
Their open letter has now been signed by 1,060 scientists from the astronomy community.
As an astronomer at the University of California, Christina Manzano, signed the open letter, and this past weekend, came to Mauna Kea to express her solidarity with the protectors.
