Thank you so much for sending me this link of you playing the Mays/Metheny compositions. Just wonderful. Lyle has gone but his music lives on in the pure expression that you have given us. I listen to a lot of music and the Mays/Metheny partnership was incomparable. I don’t think Pat has been the same since Lyle died though in Gwillam Simkins he found a brief fellow traveller on the piano. Thank you again Uwe. Come to Reading UK sometime and give us a fencers!

This is for me the most beautiful melody and human created harmony in such a delightful and peaceful vibration. Together with 'Are you going with me' this song 'Au lait' accompanied me 24 hours a day during my study 1983 through 1986....every day and the whole day.....perfect......PatMetheny and LyleMays...... The most gifted musical talents God has ever blessed with....Awesome Uwe Karcher you are a wonder...Abrazo

I've listened to 'Au Lait' for nearly 40 years. About 20 of those years (80s and 90s) on a daily basis and this beautiful song has never gotten old. It's my travel song. Every time I leave on a trip somewhere around the world (over 60+ countries) it's the song that starts me on my travels. I've requested that Part II be played at my funeral (thanks Lyle) because what is the ultimate journey-but death. And what a way to leave this Earth than with your beautiful melody.

Amazing, I can almost listen Nana Vasconcelos whispering.... You know, it really brought me back to that feeling when I bought the brand new just released ECM LP and played it for the very first time, I can almost smell it... I was around 18... how can they bring such amazing music to life!... It’s such a masterpiece! Congratulations for your amazing job, your respect for Lyle and his Music. I do love him so much, and continue to deeply feel the sadness of not having him with us anymore, his Music is tremendous! I’m pretty sure you heard the “Ludwigsburg Concert” version which is also amazing!, Thank you and I wish you all the best from Brazil!

Hi Cassio, thank you very much! Of course I have the Ludwigsburg Concert and even thought about making the "Au Lait" version of that album, but finally I preferred the "Offramp" version, which is more melancholic...
@cassionmoura

ukaykeys Yeah Man, that Offramp version is just amazing, and your transcription on Pat’s solo gave your solo arrangement such a nice mood! I feel the same about James, no other version I ever heard has that amazing feeling the Offramp one does... BTW I was reading your post on your September 15th video, and you described about the Wichita record almost the same I said here about Offramp, and I also did feel the same as you on Wichita! I suppose we are about the same age, I was born October 1963.

Same feelings of this magical and melancholy masterpiece from Lyle. Perhaps it might sound like a circus music from another era, ala morricone or rota. 40+ years of listening to this magnificent album I also can smell the ECM record that I bought in Rio de Janeiro because they didn’t have it in Argentina at that time. All those years of PMG were just amazing, that quartet of greats w nana whispering ay mi amor, eu te quiero tanto…and all the other great songs from the same LP. Thanks much for your beautiful rendition ukakeys!! And I’m also 1965 so same era. Thanks for your comments, you brought me back in time😊

This song has been among my favorites ever since Offramp was the hot new release by the Pat Metheny Group. I could say a lot about it but no reason for me to post my long form critique. It's simply a classically beautiful Lyle Mays composition and I have found over the years that all of my favorite Metheny works were dominated by Lyle's contributions. I consider Lyle Mays to be the superior composer of the Metheny/Mays duo. Or at least his compositions are more beautiful to my ear, and consistently so.

Congratulations! The original of this piece is so tender and delicate; showing the subtile co-work between two of the worlds most outstanding jazz musicians. Making your own transcription, arrangement and performance; at the same time beeing true to the almost coversation-like qualities between the themes and solo parts is NOT easy. An unskilled performer could easily make this piece painfully mechanical and almost boring. You definetly don't!Your work on this one is just exellent in every way, and a nice dedication to Lyle Mays. His music will never die. Hope to hear more from you soon.

I saw the Offramp tour in 1982, front row center at the Paramount Theater in Austin, TX. The place was packed. Lyle was about 10 feet from me and Pat was directly in front of me for much of the show. The way Lyle was positioned, I could see everything he did in great detail. I was mesmerized. Of course I remember them doing Au Lait as well as most of Offramp, all of "As Falls..." and much of the 1st "PMG" album along with some tracks that became part of the "Travels" album. It was -- hands-down -- my greatest concert experience and one to which I return often in my mind. Your performance took me right back to my 18 year-old self witnessing a masterpiece. Bravo!
