After chasing the southbound LSL earlier in the day, I decided to follow the northbound train back to Lima, which interestingly enough, also had a pretty decent leader. IORY acquired 3 SD50 variants that G&W had EMD build for their Australian property. When G&W pulled out of Australia, they were assigned to the Utah Railway, then to the IORY when they became power short. I had yet to shoot the 5017, which was leading today's train. I also had yet to shoot a northbound LSL. Usually during the Fall/Winter months, this train runs under the cover of darkness for most of its journey back to Lima. But, during the summer months, it is usually in some pretty good afternoon light. I picked up quite a few bucket list shots, including a shot on the hill at Saint Johns, OH featured in the thumbnail of this video. It was a pretty awesome way to end a day of trains!
Enjoy!
