General introduction to Australian Aboriginal languages with a focus on the beautiful Warlpiri language. Includes a brief intro to the phonology and some grammar.
In this video, the Australian Aboriginal languages are contrasted with the Austronesian languages and there are quite a few differences - in terms of pronunciation most Australian languages have now fricative sounds - s, sh, h. f. v, z etc. while Austronesian languages do (of course, not all of them in the same language!) Also Australian languages usually have more than one "R" sound and frequently have retroflex consonants.
Australian languages have a lot of suffixes, while Austronesian languages have prefixes, suffixes, infixes and circumfixes!
Finally, word order is quite free in Australian languages while Austronesian languages have a stricter word order.
