NOTE: This video does NOT contain the names, voices or images of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander people who have passed away.
Just a short video to practice speaking Warlpiri, a language spoken by around 3,000 people in Australia's Northern Territory.
This video is an informal tribute to Kenneth Hale (1934-2001), the legendary linguist and polyglot, who passed away 20 years ago today. Hale did much to advance the work of documenting and revitalising endangered languages around the world (including Warlpiri, which he even learnt to fluency), as well as giving us a better understanding of their structure.
